Wow she wants to be a national spokesperson for Aspergers!
Thats so great :) This will hopefully bring awareness and understanding about Aspergers to public attention.

Yup, because who will care about anything unless it has a pretty face to sell it, right?

People will listen more when there's a pretty face talking. Just because we don't have a natural knack for sensing how best to influence others doesn't mean that we can't learn and use what's proven effective, right? Yay, Heather!

That article also impressed me with its balanced and open-minded outlook. There was very little of the exaggeration one typically finds in the press.

Not into fashion or models, so don't watch the show, but that is outstanding. Great article, and thank you for sharing it, KindofBlue.

Personal note: nice also to see I'm not the only Miles fan.

I see the esteemed NYTimes refers to AS as a "disorder". :?

Terms like that don't bother me. It was clearly listed as a disorder in the DSM-IV. I don't regard the DSM as a shining example of scholarship, but the Times isn't doing anything wrong in quoting the (psycho)medical community accurately.

Just read the article. How nice for her. Sad that the others girls wanted to be so mean to her. :x Sad for them I mean.

No why is my avatar a character from FF?
I picked it out of the new avatars this site offers.

It's an example of the Times being intellectually lazy.

There's more where that came from. :?

I think, for a story in the mainstream press, that's absolutely brilliant. There's no mention of the 'negatives' of AS as there are in most stories you read... 'omgz AS means you cant like look at people or talk to people and you sit and rock and obsess over prime numbers and you're an uber geek oh no oh my youll get depressionzzzz!'... but instead it just says 'Aspies' are outside the mainstream, often above-average intelligence, and 'both bizarre and brilliant'. Nothing wrong with any of that, is there?

I think as far as piece on AS go it's pretty fair and pretty balanced.

Thyme,

Your character is from final fantasy VIII. I don't remember her name but she ended up being the (attractive) older sister of a group of orphans which (surprise, surprise) end up saving the world. She was one of the ones involved in saving the world.

The oldest "older sister" was called Elle. (Why do I remember her name but not the others?)
