The number of children with autism in the Greenwich Public Schools has climbed sharply in the past decade, according to school officials, who want to add more classroom assistants to give those students the individualized attention they need.
In the 1996-97 school year, Greenwich reported to the state there were 13 students with autism. By the 1999-00 school year, the number had jumped to 45 students.
Last school, that number climbed to 91 students.

And just what training and background does a "classroom assistant" have?
What will be their job, I imagine someone hovering over a child all day.
Schools have spent money on rent a cops, metal detecters,
They have installed security doors, fences, kiddie prisons are more open.
School shooting are no more or less.
Now they want to hire one on one kid watchers?
Will they have uniforms and guns, and teacher pay, or minimum wage?
This will double School District employment.
They are not Teachers or Tutors, they are Guards to watch one kid?
i assume by Classroom assistant they mean Teachers Assistant ( or atleast that what we call it in the US). Basically its someone who helps out with the teaching, basically being another body that knows the lesson that helps the students who need it. A teacher cant help all the students in the room at once and a TA helps.
