Mom: Web Hoax Led Girl to Kill Herself

For those who are interested, here is the story presented in the local paper. There's a lot more detail in there about what happened.

You know, on a site where the vast majority have been bullied and had some pretty unpleasant experiences going through highschool, that's really a breathtakingly unpleasant and vile attitude you've got there. This was a girl suffering from depression and ADD who was deliberately targeted, harassed, and publically humiliated by a lie created by the parents of another child, by someone she thought was real and trusted. It really ranks amongst some of the nastier bullying tactics that there are out there, it's extremely unpleasant and, honestly, I'm not surprised the girl committed suicide. And I'm outraged that those who perpetrated this aren't being brought to justice. There has to be some sort of harassment, fraud, or endangerment statute that can be brought to bare on them.

Forgot where this other thread was, and what the title was to that was talking about the same thing. The story about her is all over the news, as I can tell. Remember the talk shows and their segments about other girls before this one whoes' reputations actauly were ruined by internet gossip? Some of them so bad in fact that vandalism and public redicule happened?

A while back, a man found his home burned to the ground when another guy wanted revenge. They claim the arcinist was fighting on the internet with this other guy, and he (as well as some other surfers of the web) claimed that the then homeless guy acted in a trollish like way prior, and sent a 'laugh' or writing sorts in reply to the warning.
Trolls and bullies have found a new low to sink to with the internet, and you don't have to look far to find how nasty some of them are.

Sometimes you will find minor, but mean replies in youtube. There are people out there that actualy enjoy being sick. Anyway, I can imagine what it must have felt like to suddenly get emotionaly backstabbed by her own friends (so she thought), finding a web sight saying nasty things about her, believeing the community around her thinks that some sick rumor is true and would prefer her not to egsist, that her reputation is ruined, and one boy she actualy thought egsisted and trusted hated her to top it off.

Oh, that can very much be effective in a bad way. The fact that the mother of the bully helped is also disturbing. However, if they are now getting harassment of their own and did do those things, then they are getting their just diserts, in my oppinion. If I went through all that stuff that she did, I would have easily don't it to. Self-slasher and beater here, you know.

Goodness a grown up pretending to be someone and lying to a child and putting her down and telling her the world be better off without her, how despicable. I find it very sick. I think she should be charged for Megan's death.

Where were the parents who raised a daughter devoid of common sense and self worth?

Oh, I don't know, maybe they were the ones taking her to get help with her depression?

Good grief! What is with the blame the victim mentality on this board for this? Un-f***ing-believable. Given the huge rate of bullying aspies tend to go through and high rate of suicide often because of it, I really expected more sympathy for this poor girl.

Unfortunately, people tend to demonize those who are suicidal. After all, it's more convenient to label them as "weak" than admit that society is what's f*cked up. If they stopped blaming the victim and looked at the real issue, people would actually be forced to change the way they treat others.

People have to know how to take care of themselves. Do you know how much support I got? NONE. I am still alive, maybe not the healthiest example but I had to survive all of the bullying and all of the taunting of my peers by realizing that they are all just a bunch of useless people and knowing that nothing matters unless I let it matter. It made me a stronger person and if it was not for teh innocent victim that everyone likes to portray I think that we could get a lot more accomplished. Hell, there is no such thing as an innocent victim, we are all guilty from birth, face it.
