Can A Child's Diet Defeat Autism?

JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Could you bring a child out of the world of autism with a special diet?
Deb and Pablo Alfaro say yes, and that their four year old son Ciaran is living proof.
When Ciaran was diagnosed with autism shortly after he turned two, the Alfaro's noticed he wasn't talking like the other kids. "He also stopped saying 'mama and dada,'" says Deb.
But at the same time Ciaran could do something pretty amazing. "He could sit and watch an entire Dora from start to finish and then repeat it line for line. And, that's just after one time watching it," explains Deb.

Interesting. If it really works for kids, I wonder if it only works for full autism, not just Aspergers? We sure need all the research we can get on both at this point in history. Can't wait until the day that my own Asperger's can be fully analyzed and described.
Wish I could travel to the future and get it done now! ![]()

There's a big double blind study on this due next year, I'm waiting for that before I decide if I want to try it out. To big a hassle without any firm evidence, IMO. Then again, adding this in would mean I was trying to live on a:
Gluten Free
Casein Free
Pescatarian
Low sodium
High fibre
Low fat
Low calorie
diet. Doable? I'm not sure if it's possible to combine all of them, frankly.

This doesn't surprise me in the slightest. People so often underestimate the effects diet plays on the body. We weren't designed for the chemical additives, sweeteners (that includes sugar), preservatives, pesticides, flavour enhancers, colours, etc etc that our modern diet is so full of. We were made to eat fresh, organic, local fruit and veges, and the occasional bit of fresh, organic, grass-fed free-range meat and fish. We evolved that way over millions of years - it's what we're made for. Do you see cans of coke in nature? Packets of crisps? Sweets? Pre-packaged sandwiches? Eating the way we're meant to eat is the most important thing you can do for yourself.
Since I cut the crap so to speak and switched to a diet of:
Fresh, organic, local fruit and veges
Very occasional fresh organic free-range grass-fed red meat
Weekly free-range organic wild fish
Raw organic nuts
Raw organic seeds
No caffeine
Very little dairy (only organic probiotic greek yoghurt, which apparently doesn't count, and the occasional bit of cheese on something)
Very little sugar (I might have one square of chocolate every 5 days or so)
Very little gluten (never been into bread or pasta or cereals)
I've felt amazing. I've never had so much energy, my skin looks like it's glowing, I'm not lethargic and tired, I feel stronger, I can focus on things far better than I've ever been able to...
