Vaccine rule stokes fears over autism (NorthJersey.com)

Vaccines are routine now, North Jersey doctors say

Children in New Jersey's public schools and day cares must get two new vaccines by September, state health authorities recommended Monday over objections by parents who fear that immunizations can cause autism.

The decision by the Public Health Council will make New Jersey the first state to require annual shots for influenza and bacterial (pneumococcal) pneumonia for infants and toddlers. For sixth-graders, the state also will mandate a meningitis vaccination and a booster for diphtheria/pertussis/ tetanus, or DPT.

Parents will have just two ways to opt out: religious conviction or medical necessity.

Panel Formed to Investigate Safety of Vaccinations

Advocates who believe vaccines may cause autism will join mental health professionals and neurologists on a new federal panel to coordinate research and education about the issue. Medical studies have failed to show a link between vaccines and autism, but many remain unconvinced.

Nope. Basically parents are now wanting to vaccinate their child over fear of them getting Autism due to the Mercury.

Good old Mercury.

I bit on and broke a glass thermometer when I was six or so, but my mom immediately saw and heard it, because she was standing right in front of me when it happened, and she yelled at me to spit everything out immediately, which I did. I'm absolutely certain I didn't swallow any mercury. Just thought I'd mention it though. :?

I did the same thing when I was younger. I spit it out from reflex, I had been told that if it broke and the stuff got in my mouth it would poison me. Of course, I shouldn't have been chewing on the thermometer either, cuz I was told the mercury was poison.
I know I had autism before then though, one thing that sticks out was one time my mom was getting onto me for something, and she told me "look at my eyes so I know you're listening" and I absolutely did not want to, and was really uncomfortable and couldn't really hear what she was saying because I was doing that. And then another time when she was trying to get me to wear something and she finally held me down to put it on me. I was like two or three when that happened. I think it was some sweatsuit outfit with jeans over the top and a shirt underneath the sweatshirt. It was probably snowing outside.

Vaccins in Holland don't contain mercury,
and we still have our share of autistics..
and our share of hysteric parents, at that.
