The link makes page too wide to fit on my screen.
Anyway, I just (yesterday) figured out the tool on my mail to have news alerts emailed to me when there's story on the dx-and I saw this one. Enjoyed article, and look forward to the book it says she wrote (as yet unpublished) !

why the sound of electricity running through the cord from an appliance could keep her awake all night.

Huh? Electricity doesn't make any noise at all. Unless the cord was damaged and it was sparking, in which case she's got _way_ more serious problems than the sound.

Yes it does. and many aspies can hear it. It's really annoying. I used to know when my brother was on the computer when I was little because i'd here the noise, and know the computer was turned on.

Sometimes it gets overwhelming if a lot of electronics are on, I can't stand to be in a radio shack, or computer store.

I visited a row of houses in 1994, I was working at leafleting letter boxes with astronomy society info. The sound drove me mad, it was a terrible nauseating hum, made me feel sick.

The terrible low hum was at every house, almost infrasonic (sub 10Hz). Each house has a gas meter outside - it was coming from the gas meter.

Coincidentally that same month, I saw a news program about low hum annoying some sensitive residence of an estate in the UK, it was traced back to the gas supply. A new gas pumping station nearby created a very low frequency hum in the gas supply leading into the houses.

Interestingly, the person I was leafleting with could not hear the hum.

I love reading things like this, how simple knowledge, knowing what makes one tick, can change everything for the better. Such a breath of fresh air.

It is too bad that many had to face unecessary obstacles for far too long.
