Cops: 3rd-graders aimed to hurt teacher

Don't mess with the 3rd grade mafia...

I read this story this morning, really what is happening to kids these days?
The kit that they made was shown on CBC.CA

Please let this be an April Fool's day joke.

I'm taking courses to become a special ed teacher. If this is what I have to look forward to, I'd rather join the military and get shipped off to Iraq. At least over there, they give you machine guns and missiles to protect yourself.

Regrettably it's not a joke. I was just watching the news on TV and it was one of the highlighted stories.

Those poor children what got in their heads to do such a thing.

I just thought of something..... how did these kids get a hold of hand-cuffs? Aren't cops the only people that can have them?

Children at that age still don't have a realistic view of the seriousness of certain actions. They know enough to be dangerous, unfortunately, but have no compass yet with which to make decisions. They see, they copy, they don't really understand.

Fortunately, they are still kids, and rarely end up being able to put their plans into action. One grown up can still outsmart a group of third graders - easily.

No, it's not salacious as that, actually. They were toy plastic handcuffs, not the police-issued ones. And what on earth did these kids think they could do with toy handcuffs, anyway?

Those are toy hand-cuffs? That's some realistic looking plastic then.

Not if they get the drop on you. One of my family's favorite recollections is when my brother went over to a friend's house for a play date when they were about 5. They told the parents that the dog was outside and looked sick. When the parents went outside to look at the dog my brother and his friend locked the parents out of the house. The dog was fine. Then they proceeded to go crazy and ended up causing several thousand dollars worth of damage to the house tearing things up and marking on the walls.

Ha ha! Awesome! My niece pulled off something like this when she was only two. Her mom just went outside to get the mail and closed the door without realizing it was locked, so she went to the back to get in the patio door, my neice ran to the patio, locked the door and ate the chocolait cake that was being made, there was a huge mess by the time my sister-in-law was able to get inside.

I've always been one who said "well I play Grandtheft Auto and I have yet to shoot anyone"...However, where could these kids be getting these ideas besides the media and other kids imitating the media? Crime is far too glorified in America.

I find this to be a very difficult question, there are sooo many answers to back up and put down the answers to this question.

One documentary I find really good about this topic is Bowling for Columbine by Micheal Moore.

They're third-graders, they didn't know any better.
