Just been watching the Sunday Life TV program on BBC1.

Anybody see the footage of the so called footie fans ( Rangers) chasing a young policeman and then ONE very small thug tripped the copper up so they could all start kicking the hell out of him ??

In a perfect world I would have them all rounded up and whipped to within an inch of the scummy lives ! !!

These cowardly scumbags make me so ANGRY ! !! !! !!

Surely with all the CCTVs around they could identify those lowlifes ESPECIALLY the little runt who purposely tripped the coppper up ! !

Sorry for ranting but the TV footage of the copper being kicked repeatedly makes me sick to the stomach . :(

Well, rounding them up and beating them will certainly stop the cycle of violence.

And yet I'd still like to try it.

People don't want to stop the violence. They want a piece of the action.

Understood. However, is there really a 'cycle' of violence or is this just one of the myriad of modern myths to explain the horrors of the world? The vast majority of those who have been on the receiving end of violence (which for those with AS may be nearly all of the males, at least), never, ever go on and attack others. Perpetuating the myth of a 'cycle of violence', is the lazy thinking way out of a very difficult problem. Why can't we allow the perpetrators to have some choice, some blame foir initiating this. Perhaps they were simply born with a bad neurology that drives them so? Unfair? Well thats the way it is.

Isn't fear of being beaten a possible deterrent to inflicting this sort of horrendous act? Would any sane person attack another if they thought they'd end up worse off? In this case I imagine it's the security of numbers, which is pretty much how all bullying works. Only the rare psychpath would do this sort of thing on there own, gang mentality and/or boosting ones status in the group is a big part of much of this. I think that these runts, like all bullies, do it because they know they almost certainly will *not* have to face any serious punishment.

If this has been caught clearly on film, I suspect they *will* catch the people involved. And by golly they'll give them a serious talking to, maybe even a 6 month suspended sentence or 40 hours community service.

What gets me is that the hideous individuals (sic?) involved will almost certainly be well-socialized with families, partners and friends who will all support them (and even 'like' them) regardless. I doubt if any of these ever suffered an ounce of self-doubt. Of course I wouldn't suggest that the problem is endemic with NT's whose actions are driven more-or-less exclusively by how they fit with their peer group :(

I would have no problem with these thugs having a mysterious fall down some concrete steps in a quiet police cell somewhere.

Violence begets violence. There are more creative ways to deal with violent behavior.

Hooligans are Britain's best export, I think. Even more so than tea.

I disagree :) Where did the initial violence come from, then? Are you saying that the lads kicking the policeman have all been similarly kicked? Total rubbish and we all know it.

I do think humiliation should be part of a creative solution to these problems, especially when these lads are clearly out to look cool and impress their mindless peers. Bring back the stocks!! ! A day being pelted with rotten veg while forced to wear unfashionable non-designer clothes would soon sort them out. If that fails, how about sterilisation?

You don't think violence is cyclical? What about Israel and Palestine? It's a principle that holds from the macro-level all the way down to the micro-leve. To deny that would be foolish. I'm not talking about those soccer hooligans and policemen in particular. I'm saying that if I hurt you, you'd naturally want to hurt me back. And then I'd want to hurt you again, and then you retaliate again. And so on.

If you value the cops, you'll value their mission, namely law and order. Each offender should get 20 years in prison. If they don't, it reveals a problem with flaky judges.

To the people advocating violence, are you saying it would have been better for black people in the Southern US to fight violence with violence during their civil rights struggles? Or maybe it would have been better for Ghandi to preach violence against the British in India's struggle for independence? If violence is squelched with more violence, all you get is a bunch of surly people who are going to retaliate with more violence the first opportunity they get.

Yep. Let's get real, normal people that engage in ordinary violence do so for profit (muggers, etc), to improve their social status (gang violence) or sheer boredom (many bullies). It's not the victim's fault if they come from broken families or whatever. From what I know, what actual research shows is that, rather than a 'cycle of violence', that very violent people generally either have sexual frustrations or lacked physical affection as children. Apparently violence tends to make children withdrawn.

Ask an Isrsaeli or Palestianian about the cycle of violence. I guarantee he will have an interesting answer for you.

You could always try video gaming... oops, that apparently causes the violence according to some attorney from florida...
