The chinese government has been flooding ethnic area's with han chinese, they're trying to homogenise their culture/country/etc. This makes ethnic groups angry.

I'm not sure i understand China is trying to make it so everyone has Chinese blood in there country?

They want everyone to identify as chinese, instead of tibetan, uighar, etc... Most of the tibetan riots were because tibetans are slowly becoming an ethnic minority in their own province. The same is true of the uighar. The chinese government create job oppurtunities in said areas, and then ship han chinese in to give them the jobs.

How very clever of the Chinese.

Considering how western media operates towards china, it's only inevitable that china would do stuff like this, they need the majority of every part of their country to want to remain a part of it. In the short-term there are riots, but in the medium-to-long term stability is increased. There is no way they could give extra autonomy to these area's, the rest of the world would continue to push for independance, etc. The world fears china's future power and would like nothing more than to see parts of it break off.

You know i had heard there was a city somewhere in China (one that's in its full economic growth period, skyscrapers and co being built around...) that's been given a lot more independance about decisions than some of these small provinces would be. And yeah, this assimilation job is pretty much the chinese's version of colonialism. -.- Some of us should thank our lucky stars to live in a "democracy" where minorities are tolerated /accepted (such as is the case with Quebec, though there is more to the story than that).

What's happening in china is merely what has already happened in most european and western countries. I am indeed glad that i live in a "democracy", but it would hardly be fair to condemn china.

nobody's slate is clean. I guess someone forgot to listen to Napoleon, and woke China up...

I'm mainly wondering about their proposed moon mission, and if we'll be known as 'the Portuguese of Space'...

Yeah, if a place is ever so clean and perfect, it would be Utopia...
