Lexi is adorable, and smart!

I love the Iditarod (I'm an Alaskan) and almost 2 yrs ago one of the best mushers ever, Susan Butcher, died quite young from a form of blood cancer, similar to leukemia. She left behind her 2 young daughters and husband, and many beloved sled dogs who are cared for. I always admired Susan; she LOVED her dogs and they were her family.

Ironically, about a decade before her death, when she was talking/writing about her illness, she related this, and I never forget. She was mushing on the ice with her favorite lead dog, a female Alaskan malamute/husky and SMART. Susan accidentally fell through the ice, which often equates to a quick death in freezing water with a ice ceiling so there's no way out. Her lead dog fished Susan's hypothermic body out of the ice hold, which is a remarkable rescue feat. Then, her sled dog drug Susan by the hood into the sled and ran her home where she could get emergency treatment.

Susan wrote, about her dog and this life-saving experience, in paraphrase, "I would have died that day, frozen to death. Therefore, any day from then forward is a gift." Susan won the Iditarod later too, which her that lead dog!

Susan will be missed and the Iditarod always honors her memory and her sled dogs, especially the one who saved her.

Animals do have self-sacrificing loyalty and they're smart. What human could know to do this?

Another pic, Musher on Iditarod Trail! The Iditarod has some of the finest veterinarians ever, and they love those dogs! Those vets volunteer and I've met some - they're probably some of the most compassionate people I've ever met. Alaskan sled dogs are cool!

I love those dogs, my family had one, I do have a pack of ferocious Albertan Boot Weasels, I don't
think they would be good at rescuing me if I fell down someplace, they may think its dinner time.

Alerbtan Boot Weasels sound like lots of fun....don't know how they'd perform pulling a sled in the snow though

But penguins glide on their bellies on the ice - there's a chance! hahaha!

I like how weasels move since they're like a living slinky.

These ones are not the outdoor type, my boy ferret is afraid of his own shadow. I need to get a dog, they are easier to take on a walk.
