Almost 13,000 babies in hospital after drinking tainted milk

The ministry said in a briefing on the crisis that the total number of babies admitted to hospital after drinking poisoned formula was now 12,892, according to Xinhua news agency.
Four babies have died after drinking milk powder contaminated with melamine, an industrial chemical, according to government statements, in the latest in a string of health scandals to tarnish Chinese-made goods.
There were 104 cases in which babies showed serious symptoms, said the ministry, and 1,579 babies had been cured and left hospital, Xinhua said.
I hate to sound prejudiced, but products made in china really are inferior to those made in other countries. As much as possible I try not to buy products made in china.

It's not necessarily that the products or producers are inferior by nature, it is that China's burgeoning industrial sector does not seem to have to answer to regulators. Most likely (and I admit I don't know for sure) the regulators are either careless or corrupt. There is an absolute chance that the same could and does happen in the U.S. But this is an argument for government checks and balances on the manufacturing/food industry if I have ever heard one. Because obviously the people running the dairy forgot their ethics.
China is destroying its environment at a rate far more rapid than even the United States. The government is so proud of its GNP that it is practially selling its soul and literally poisoning its people. It is a cautionary tale.
Melamine causes kidney stones.
Which part of the world do YOU live in and what do you eat or drink?
Could there be Melamine in it?
Possibly, but I have not had kidney stones.
I would hope there is no melamine in what I eat or drink, of course I don't have a melamine-testing set at home, so I do not know for sure. It makes me angry and scared no matter WHAT part of the world I live in or WHAT part of the world is producing these materials. China is a huge and powerful nation, and in many ways influenced by and symbiotic with the United States, where I live. By cautionary tale, I mean - something all nations can learn from.
Incidentally, I saw a documentary on the LINK network (public TV) about China's pollution problem, which doesn't make me an expert, but is what sparked some of the concern/influenced my opinions. I was going to link to some of the news stories regarding this topic. But when I ran my search for "pollution in China" I didn't even have to type China - just "pollution" and Google filled in the rest. Apparently this sort of thing is common knowledge. Of course I would never intend to criticise or deride an entire nation. But as I meant to say, there was a weak link somewhere (I would say the easiest fix would be government controls) after all.
It is my understanding that thse milk products were also exported to some countries in Asia and a handful in Africa, including Tanzania and Burundi.

Food additives= minus quality topic
There was a dog/cat food additive problem last year, at least in Canada, resulting in about a dozen pet deaths attributed to melamine and formaldehyde added to some component of the food manufactured in China. Many more pets became very seriously ill, and owners were horrified. the problem was solved when the food was tested, and now this problem will not occur, at least here. But in China, people are often ignorant of manufacturing problems, partly due to a muzzled press and apathy encouraged by the current political regime.
As a result, babies are very ill, and many are dying/dead.
I misspelled the word due, so I corrected it. It should not read "die", even though this is the result!
I needed to proofread, but I guess the meaning came clear.

It wasn't just in Canada, It was here too. It was so awful, I remember seeing on the news one man crying of his little dog, who was so ill...
It isn't prejudice because it's true.
Next time you have your car serviced at the dealership, ask the service manager why it is his "Genuine Manufacturer Replacements" come out of the exact same Chinese factories, and cost less than half as much the exact same parts for sale at the local auto parts store.
