Eustis cop fired for tasing teen at party
Quote:
EUSTIS - A Eustis police officer was fired this month after his supervisors discovered he tased a 15-year-old boy while off duty at a party to demonstrate how the weapon worked. Dan NeSmith, 22, was suspended Sept. 22 and fired Oct. 8, according to Eustis police Chief Fred Cobb. In September, several officers approached the police department's administration after hearing rumors NeSmith used his duty Taser's contact-stun function on Taylor Davis at a party at NeSmith's Grand Island home Sept.|5, and that the minors, including Davis, were served alcohol at the party, Cobb said. The department examined its officers' Tasers and found that only NeSmith's had been used at that time, Cobb said. In addition, NeSmith was captured on video shocking Davis. NeSmith used the device on Davis at the teen's request, Cobb said. Cobb said NeSmith had been with the Eustis Police Department for 13 months. Cobb said the police department is not pursuing criminal charges because the party was outside its jurisdiction. NeSmith would face criminal charges if any of the teens' parents file complaints.
