Actually, it's the most awesome excuse in the history of ever, because it gets him out on the basis of insanity. He'll be found not guilty of any criminal trial, spend a few months in a psych ward, then get to go back to his life. And his employers in the future can't check the psych records, only the criminal, so he really gets off scot-free.

Religionists ...

Some people will try any excuse to resolve themselves of responsibility for the choices they make and the actions they take.

Reminds me of a similar story from psychology class, except the guy didn't think he was under orders from god, he thought he was Jesus himself. (bipolar in a manic stage)

Why is this story so unbelievible? People have done many worse things in the name of god.

Yes, such as the Crusades. However that was due to the corrupting influence of state religion. In this case they guy is either trying to get off on the insanity plea, or actually is insane.

I agree. But it isn' just religionists or people of faith who do this. Everybody does this.

Yup, thats the problem with religion, you can use it as a excuse for something that is really your problem.

This dude is just crazy.

If god is so powerful, then let the almighty ram the vehicle. if god can part the Red Sea, then this god can do anything!!

"God told me to do it" spells out I-N-S-A-N-I-T-Y.

Doctors are trained to read body language so well they will know if a patient is faking it or not. The patient has to be real good to fool a doctor. That's why they hire a doctor to evaluate a criminal when they say something stupid like "God told me to." Because anyone can say it to get off.
