Its always a point of interest when we discuss empathy in aspies: how do they differ from us?

Here is the article. http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2008 ... t_seabrook

The way of the psychopath topic

Good article, Fuzzy. Empathy is absent in these creeps, while those living with AS process it differently.

Glad to see there is a new researcher, Dr. K. Keihl who is building on the studies of Dr. R. Hare. This is a fascinating topic.

Quote:

autistics used to be locked up and medicated because they were 'out of control' whereas now those on the far side of the spectrum are seen as autistic rather than 'a problem to society' and put in homes where they can recieve a certain amount of help, who's to say psycopathy shouldn't be put in the same category?

how many of those on the autism spectrum feel empathy or remorse? how many understand it?
how many hit others without intending it, or have severe behavier problems?

i'm not sure which side of the fence i'm on but this should be considered for a fair argument.

Some people are just a**holes. Simple as that. The prison is filled with psychopaths. They choose to hurt people. They don't have to.

The article suggests that they cannot help it.

Not that it gives me any sympathy though. The end effect is that they hurt people.

Empathy is a bit overrated, you know. People hurt each other enough the same time they're 'empathic' and 'compassionate'.

Horrible stuff, because they proclaim to be 'right' and 'good' and 'morale' even though their ability of empathy doesn't make them any of this.

Interesting article.
