they could have just given about $3,500 to every single person, babies, senior citizens and homeless included.

Just think of how many nuclear power plants that could have built. We could be completely out of the oil problem by now if the money were more wisely spent. Elected officials pride themselves on saving a million here and a billion there, but give little thought to signing away hundreds of billions of dollars for questionable things. What has become of that 700 billion bank bailout? What have you heard of that lately? A trillion dollars would pay for about 100 science projects similar to Europe's ITER fusion reactor. If 9/10 of these projects produced nothing it would still be a better deal than what we've got now. It's no wonder the Europeans laugh at us. They're living better and getting more done. The way we're going, the only thing we'll be exporting is corn.

Imagine how much money the Department of Health and the Department of Education would have received had not Bush cut their budgets by:

Education: $50 million

Health: $35 million

Apparently, Bush thinks the US is the healthiest country in the world
and wants students to be stupid.

america's in debt, britain's in debt...why are the strongest always so obsessed with power that they destroy themselves?

the money should have been spent on something better than warfare, especially warfare that makes no sense. if it's only about the oil then the money should have been spent on either funding a new approach/energy source or spending the money on a new vehicle design to lower needed intake.

Trillion, I thought it was a billion.

Oh well, the economy is still getting worse nonetheless.

Looks like we're going to need more bridges for more homeless people.

^Yes, I saw that on a map and was shocked by the comparison to other countries of how much electricity we use.

...I forgot to add, we need more animal shelters for the homeless animals.... :(

Normally I would say that but it doesn't seem to be in the governement's best interest.

But since Obama's been elected......I guess we'll see.

Well, Saddam and his sons were mean bastards, and I'm not sad to see them go, but where are things going from here? I guess democracy is good, I hope it works out, and I hope that not too many more people will be killed in all this. However, $1 trillion spent to bring democracy to 25 million people, isn't viable and continuing in a likewise program will bankrupt us, if it hasn't already.

A trillion spent on make-work programs such as improving roads and building nuclear plants, windmills etc. would employ people. It's not really a handout because people have to work for it, and after all is said and done we will have whatever the workers built. What did we get for the trillion we blew up in Iraq? ~4000 service personnel killed and a fireworks display that, for the most part, we didn't even get to see!

It's time to start taking care of our own. Too much money is leaving the US for energy imports, without which the balance of payments would be breakeven or better. Investment in nuclear and renewables redirects this money to pay the salaries of US citizens in white lab coats employed over here, who pay taxes over here, spend their money over here, etc.
