A woman has decided to continue with a pregnancy with a baby that has two heads and one body.

Abort or not? My feelings are mixed on this.

oh i read a bit about this couple elsewhere, I think they've struggled to conceive a child, so naturally they're not going to abort. some people are interested in the money the media will pay for their story and if the child survives, for the continuing story, so there's always that angle too.

it's completely their decision, why create a poll? i think the media speculating on whether she should abort is rather offensive.

It is interesting to see what others think about such an emotive issue. You could argue that it is down to the mothers choice but some could argue that maybe there is a degree of disability where the baby should be aborted anyway not wishing to bring a baby into the world that is likely to suffer so much? I'm not saying those are my feelings, just playing devil's advocate really.

From what I understand a number of years ago it wasn't unheard of for nurses to whisk away newly born babies with extreme deformities and tell the mother they were still-born when they were not.

The ethics of this are a minefield.

Here's an article about some twins in a similar circumstance who are leading fulfilling lives.

So you think exploitation is a good reason to decide one way or the other?!

How likely is it that a two-headed baby can have any quality of life at all? How likely is it that such a child would survive birth in the first place? Such a gross deformity/mutation severly diminishes any chance of survival. If such a pair of conjoined twins survive to adolescence and are not just living but thriving, that's nothing less than a miracle.

Even so, they/he/she/it/w/e shouldn't be killed before it has the chance to try and survive, two heads are better than one...

If there's a brain in each head, that's two babies with one body, not one baby with two heads.

Exactly, wait what do you mean if? If there is two heads but only one brain... then and ONLY then should one of the heads be removed but I think the baby should make that decision when it grows up. I have so many mixed feelings about this I don't know anymore.

My views on abortion can be summed up in the following statement: I will never have an abortion.

IMHO, the only people who have any business rendering an opinion on whether or not to have an abortion are the ones who are faced with the choice... anyone else should keep their opinions to themselves.

This situation is so extreme, I don't think anyone can or should judge her whatever she decides, period. I haven't read the article, but if the child might easily die anyway, one really, really cannot say for certain what she should do. It's one of those situations where there's a decision that's so extremely hard and painful to make, that God simply is not going to come down hard on the person no matter which way they go. Like a father toward his child, God punishes willful, defiant, flagrant disobdience, not honest errors in borderline situations where the person only wants to do what's right, but is having the hardest time knowing what that is. On the contrary, God our father rewards that goodwill, since God judges the will (the "heart", in Scripture), not the act, according to whether it is toward good or toward evil.

I think people speculating on what they should do is rather offensive. If it were phrased as 'what would you do' it would be far less invasive of their privacy.

But the poll says should she, what a person would do in that situation makes a big influence on that.

no one says you have to answer the poll - that's what influenced my decision in this situation. They don't have to make the decision to abort, either.
