de belgium serial killer Kim de Gelder, who on the 23th of january entered a nursery in the village of Dendermonde and stabbed two infants and a 54 year old child minder too death and 10 infants and 2 adults were wounded, the killer has also been accused of murdering a 73 year old woman a week prior to the nursery attack.

i watched the news this morning and a pscyhologist predicted that the murderer might be on the spectrum he also hinted he might be schizophrenic aswell. it made me feel really ashamed but also angered at authority's that without extensive research they label someone autistic wich makes it even harder for autistic to just be ourselves.

the VVA (a belgium organization for autistics) has had alot of phone calls of paretns who believe they're autistic children might grow up to be serial killers and autistic adults who have integrated into society find it difficult to deal with the new stigma's.

i was even more ashamed when my parents handed me the paper and told me the killer looked like me, except that he now has his hair dyed red. the killer does show various traits that might make him autistic such as being a silent introvert person, yet even if he does turn out to be autistic it wont make up for his gruesome acts, i hope they put him away for the rest of his life.

parents are worried their autistic children wil grow up to become seriel killers?

autism does NOT cause psychosis or cause those on the spectrum to go out and kill, other illnesses do and uintil it's noted we will always recieve stigma as a threat to society.

this link is to an article but it doesn't state anything about him being autistic.

this link however states he may be autistic but thankfully states he may have other disorders responsible for him comiting the crime.

i mainly read the dutch articles witch do speculate about autism, though many specialists whom have been interviewed stated that labeling a serial killer as autistic without any research can have neagtive results for the autistic community, i used to be a proud aspie but i don't know if i can be open about it anymore now.

the problem with the world is that people sterotype for the negative effect, hundreds of autistic indeviduals may do good and want decent lives but because one is classed as 'possibly autistic' everyone thinks we're all like it.

Multiple Murderer topic

I think he should be tested for psychopathy.

My national news source in Canada stated the alleged killer has a mental illness, and whatever that means it does not imply autism.

I suppose he will be on a suicide watch during incarceration.

There is evidence to suggest that people on the spectrum may be more likely to commit some crimes, but they're things like theft or stalking (driven by a strong interest in something or someone). The evidence suggests, on the other hand, that people on the spectrum are far less likely to commit serious crimes like murder or assault.

It seems like a reasonable trade-off to me. I think parents should be far less worried about their children committing crime and far more worried about helping them enjoy their lives.

Keep him locked up. Maybe in a mental hospital since he is crazy.

I think that such a person needs to be "isolated from man and his environment". If he is not insane than I am inclined to "lock him up and throw away the key", or "lock him up and weld the cell door shut".

If he has a mental illness then I think that a secure hospital such as Broadmoor should be where he should go.

I have not seen the exact details of the case, I suspect that the general public will be thankfully never shown some details of case, so I am unable to say what the person's mental state is. So I can not say what it right or wrong with such a person. Something is deeply wrong with this man but I do not know what.

Even if he does has AS or autism, I do not think that is autism would drive him to commit murder. I think that autism or AS is no more likely to drive a man to commit murder than having normal eyesight is able to drive a man to become a peeping tom.

Diagnosed under the DSM5 rules with autism spectrum disorder, under DSM4 psychologist said would have been AS (299.80) but I suspect that I am somewhere between 299.80 and 299.00 (Autism) under DSM4.

this guy shouldn't be sent to an asylem or mental hospital, there have been so many criminals that have been given the easy route because of the insanity plea that it now holds no meaning. this guy should be punished.

Not being allowed out in the world is a good enough punishment. He lost his freedom. Now he has to be cooped up in a building and cannot go anywhere outside it.

there's only one problem with that, what if he wants to be alone?

there was a man who killed his mother and recieved life imprisonment, he wanted the death penalty so he killed a prison counseller, he got what he wanted.

many people who commit the crimes this man have have only one ambition in life, to commit a crime like this. after that they're happy to either die or be left alone in a cell, i say find his fears and exploit them, make him feel the suffering he's inflicted.

Well I wouldn't want to be locked away. I like my freedom, TV computer, video games, not having to follow any rules except for my own. I would not get that in prison because my life would be controlled. I heard inmates get free TV in their cells and free internet but I doubt it's unlimited and would I be allowed to have my Benny & Joon with me in my cell and a laptop, my PSP, all my video games and music?

That's why I would not want to be locked up. Plus I wouldn't be able to go out and explore and see Spokane again.
