As a Mexican, I have to say I see this on the news all the goddamn time. It's not surprising for me.
To cope with this, we civilians have adopted an attitude of complete detachment from the drug world. Stay out of trouble, and you'll be all fine. Only problem is, if you're a lawyer or a businessman, which are by far the most common professions here, you will eventually get entangled with the drug world, because these two fields absolutely reek of money laundering and all sorts of suspicious s**t.
This is also a reason why I want to become a scientist. After all, it's easy to fake a successful business façade, but it's very goddamn hard to fake being a research center when they make you work on theoretical computer science. And I want to live in France, or at least away from this s**thole of violence and corruption.
