Does your Pepsi lack pep? Is your Coke not the real thing? India's Hindu nationalist movement apparently has the answer: a new soft drink made from cow urine.

Amazing! How can a culture be so different? I learned a lot about Indian culture by reading that article.

Many cultures have used urine for many different reasons. Urine is sterile.

In the animal kingdom the ingestion of body excrement is common. There are still nutrients in the various, to us obscene or dirty things that are consumed, substances.. Us included when we drop dead in the middle of the jungle. It's nature at work. Do I need to remind anybody we are animals?

The ingestion of human urine is not unique either. There are some very famous people who practiced it, revered people to this day. In one very famous person the land was impoverished, food scarce, and there were still nutrients in the urine that the body hadn't ingested the first time through.

However in your above western style tabloid news flash, well you made it this way for your own shock amusement; I'm sure this has been looked at, when the urine comes from an ill animal or an animal that has been, for an example, been on antibiotics or growth hormones, the antibiotic's/hormones are passed on the those that consume it. My guess is the animals will be very healthy.

In the same vein, we have the same problem when it comes to eating meat from animals with all sorts of chemicals that remain in there parts that we consume. The same holds true with plants being consumed when it comes to such things as plant control pesticides

It is very much a cultural thing and the sad truth is, some people will view this as those that practice this as some form of a lower being.

Coca-cola is very aware of the cultures when they market. There are coca-cola products you never ever see in Western cultures, but are very popular in other cultures.

Only if the kidneys are functioning correctly

"when the urine comes from an ill animal......."

But yeah I should have stressed that point a little better, thanks.

Gah, RSS... they're notorious for being militant anti-muslim fanatics.

However, I do support use of cow urine therapy. 100%. http://www.cowurine.com/

However, I have no interest in supporting terrrorist organisations like RSS, VHP, and SIMI.

Btw, one serious mistake in the article: cow slaughter is banned only in two states: Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand. Other states have restrictions, such as only old and frail cows can be slaughtered. For example, in my state, cow slaughter houses are only banned in urban muncipalities.

Urine town topic

In other cultures, urine has been used for medicinal reasons, and even as an aphrodisiac.

Before sophisticated blood/urine sugar testing, doctors would taste a patient's urine to determine if diabetes was present (glucosuria).

People have consumed their own urine if adrift at sea with no other means of fresh drinking water.

Coprophagia is the technical term for consuming feces. I have a dog that loves to eat the cat's droppings.

Urophagia is the term for imbibing piss. Waste not.

I worked in a glass factory at one time. This glass factory did many machine made products, but the art of blowing glass was and is still used by hand. But they do the art form now, not the old hand shops that I worked in.

The older "gaffers" (and not just them, anyone that handled the "clean irons" had the same problem, me included.) when just coming back on a job after being a way from it for a while, would use their lady friends or wives urine to toughen up their hands. There was no slow pace in that place. Clean irons can be murder on your hands when you first start up, after being a way for a while. I used tape, my wife refused, but she was nasty like that and I soon got rid of her.

Ancient Egyptians also used urine for many things.

The article claimed it would. I'm a bit worried about bacteria, though. I'm sure they'd make sure ti was safe to drink before selling it to their citizens.

My father is a Urologist. Urine tends to be sterile unless the individual it comes from has some sort of infection or illness.
