The study would come to be called "cursed," but it started out just as Study 15.
It was a long-term trial of the antipsychotic drug Seroquel. The common wisdom in psychiatric circles was that newer drugs were far better than older drugs, but Study 15's results suggested otherwise.
As a result, newly unearthed documents show, Study 15 suffered the same fate as many industry-sponsored trials that yield data drugmakers don't like: It got buried. It took eight years before a taxpayer-funded study rediscovered what Study 15 had found -- and raised serious concerns about an entire new class of expensive drugs.
Study 15 was silenced in 1997, the same year Seroquel was approved by the Food and Drug Administration to treat schizophrenia. The drug went on to be prescribed to hundreds of thousands of patients around the world and has earned billions for London-based AstraZeneca International -- including nearly $12 billion in the past three years.
The results of Study 15 were never published or shared with doctors, even as less rigorous studies that came up with positive results for Seroquel were published and used in marketing campaigns aimed at physicians and in television ads aimed at consumers. The results of Study 15 were provided only to the Food and Drug Administration -- and the agency has strenuously maintained that it does not have the authority to place such studies in the public domain.

Oh, you know what's worse? ^^ I heard some office in the USA which regards health has been infiltrated by people selected by Monsanto (and those guys are probably the worst scum of americans if i ever saw any ~). And they silence any opposition (ofc), how great it must be to live in a country where everything has been dereglemented (thanks to whom? ^^ ). ;p
It's not surprising that Drug companies will try to bury unfavorable studies. It's one thing if they bury the drug along with the study, it's another thing if they release the drug anyways.
In the end a business is a business and sometimes the executives will do some morally grey (or flat out wrong) things in order to make money. That doesn't mean there's some grand conspiracy, it means that there are simply some greedy people out there, and some of them are in positions of power.

They probably tried to bury it because they found out you could get high off of it. People at my school sell it..lol

Well, look at the mountains of evidence that THC can be used for medicinal purposes which are all shot down by the anti-drug organizations. I myself have been smoking Cannabis for years because no other drug that I've tried has had the same effects for both my AS and my Tourette's Syndrome. There are far more dangerous drugs out there which are constantly being prescribed which do less than THC, but the FDA is adamant about claiming that Cannabis has no medicinal value, and for that reason, refuses to allow any official studies to prove it otherwise.
but did you know that extecy was the end all be all for psychiatry and right now they are coming out with oxytocen clones that stimulate the same areas in theory to how extecy is supposed to work and saying how wonderful it is at curing autism.
IF I am not mistaken isn't methadone supposed to work on stimulating the same areas of the brain as morphine and opium to which all of for the effect they have are illegal.
Most of the reasoning behind the law on drug's that are not that harmful if used wisely being completely illegal are about the mind set agents them. There is no way that the neo prohibitionist movement in conservative VALUE oriented society will not have ANY intoxicant unless they are thwarted like in prohibition. There is hardly any mind altering drugs except alcohol that you can get in America nowadays and you have to be 21 for that.
weed and other drugs that are illegal are there among the many things that logic is thwarted by using there status as a drug as curculer logic as to why you cannot prove in science that it is not sever enough to legalize because you are prohibited to grow use experiment or anything with it.
mother always smokes cigarettes but I always complain about it such that it makes her mad. (I almost had a brain fart wile I think writing this by saying the opposite te he.) and cigarettes are what killed my stepfather yet for FREEDOM sake that is made legal.
If you live in a democracy it is do as I do Not do other things that are not really different comparatively but that I don't like .
but that is why autistics are harassed because laws are not passed for fairness and justice, they are there to judge people for things sociaty considers undesirable.
When you come across the words Americas morals and the reference that it is separate from religion you might as well say that the scars of past tyranny rule the definition of freedom today with the lie's of what justice is. Dread V. Scot supream court ruling that black men that were slaves did not classify as a man or human but property and were owned, showed that all men are not created equal in definition of judgment until duly given a vote in congress that passes a bill that enacts that right to be defined by the same words and the word colors added to the further elaboration on what a man is.
our country is always and any other country that cant firmly mitigate the tendency to define past morals as the flag post of democracy but create new ones based on freedom than freedom is a lie. but more importantly freedom could exist greater than now if not for the false assumption of need for the exceptions created out of the unwillingness to change for that goal
Probably the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). They're basically owned by pharmaceutical companies now. It's crazy.
It's great that there are people out there to try to right all the wrongs in pharmaceutical companies and psychiatric research, but when people say that "psychiatry is to blame", as if the entire practice is evil, that's where their ignorance comes in. It's much like the creationists who confuse "evolution" with "evolutionary theory".
I took that drug seroquel and it caused me to develop type 2 diabetes. The proof is that I was seeing an endocronologist for a hormone problem since 2001. I was always average weight about 115 lbs. Well, in 2003, I started taking it and my psychiatrist kept creeping up the dosage. By 2004, I became insulin resistant, my weight was 156 lbs. my doctor told me to diet. So I diet, exercise and to no avail, I still gained weight, by the end of 2005, I was about 175 lbs. Even worse, the stupid medication got creeped up again and my appetite went up. I tried to stay on my diet, but the medication effects on my brain, thinking and appetite would not allow me any control, so in April 2006,my weight was about 200lbs., I got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. My endocronologist, who is excellent at her field noticed after I got diagnosed and was given a diabetes medications, my weight went down(40 lbs. in the first month). But Ironically even though I did the diet, lost weight, and was on the medication, my sugars were still extremely high. So my endochronologist knew it was the seroquel. The problem was too, I live in a group home, who did not to believe her and on top of that believe medications are the best for everyone and because the psychiatrist did not believe the diabetes things, when the endo contacted the group home, the group home nurse argued with her and told the psychiatrist and a whole war started. Then the endo talked to the psychiatrist, he did not believe her too. Even worse, a few months later, I had a breakdown, and the group home not only suggested I stay on the medication, but they ended up making him increase it more. The sad thing is my health was failing and my endochronologist was on my side trying to save me, and the group home who was on the psychiatrist's side trying to keep me on it.
Well, Make a long story short, I had to go into surgery for a colon removal. The surgeon who did the surgery had to contact all of the doctors to see if i can get it done, plus he was the biggest advocate for me as well. The surgeon told the psychiatrist that I am to come off all medications because he was afraid that with my health failing, I would have serious complications during and after surgery. So the psychiatrist and the group home had no choice but to take me off. Long story short, one month after I got off it, the diabetes disappeared, and also I had no sign of insulin resistance and I am cured. I was released from my endo, and no longer on medications and i am doing well.
That is my story about it. The stuff is horrible and everything else i have taken.
