Depending on their religious affiliation, schools can choose books that describe the French as colonialists or liberators and portray the Ottomans as conquerors or as administrators.
See this is way I hate how history is taught in general, this because they shouldn't be portraying the French or Ottomans as anything. They should simply state what they know happened, failing that what may likely have happen and also so archaeological evidence to back that up. It is up to the individual to decide.
And FFS does it really matter if the Ottoman or French were colonisers? It is not like you are talking about modern Turkey or France. Technically they were, as in the controlled colonies. You can’t pretend they were never there or they were invited. Whether is good or bad is debatable. They had different ways of colonising. Part of the Ottomans success was using local hierarchies and cultures to control their empire. Much the Ottoman local governance wasn't done by Ottomans or even necessarily Muslims. However obviously those controlling these areas has some confidence in the empire even if there rest the population didn't. The French did try to give the Druze a puppet between Syria and Lebanon, but arguably they were not as effective as the ottoman at delegating power.
One of the failing of puppet state like Kingdom of Iraq, etc. is they failed to understand the local culture often importing the royally from outside, equally clueless.
