I go to a specialist school and I love it. There are kids with a range of difficulties there, but no-one there is "Severely" (for want of a better word) disabled. I have friends there and people accept me as I am, I board there and it's become a second home. I don't get picked on if I want to pace the grounds in the evenings, or work in a small room by myself in the daytime, and my friends understand that I 'fill up' quickly - i.e a short conversation is enough for me, I can't socialize for long periods of time. I love being able to debate with staff there. The best thing about it is I am allowed to be who I am.

...oh dear, I think I've been rambling again. So yeah, what kind of school do you go to? Do you enjoy it? Why?

I attend a public school in Michigan and I absolutely hate it. It's difficult for me to make friends here and most people don't understand the things I do and say.My teachers for the most part are okay but I get in disagreements with them quite a bit and I get extremely stressed out during the school year

I attend a public school and similarly, I get so stressed out in the school year that I want to cry and give up on my dreams!

Catholic Private School. Pretty good, people are nicer there in general and I have a few friends but none in my class cus I'm in the smart class and I don't make smart friends. I prefer the accepting kind.

I go to an arts high school! Been going here since 9th grade an I also board! I love it! Everybody is so fun and loving! There's never really a dull moment. I would never trade this for the world! I'm a Junior and can't believe I'm close to graduating!

A liberal arts high school. I love it to pieces. I used to like it better though. I know it's only fair, but they let people in on a lottery and some of the kids just aren't very nice or hippy at all. They're closed minded and I can't connect with them. But it's much better than being back in public school, that's for sure.

Public school, everything has been better since I got a 504 plan academically. I don't have a group but I have managed to keep a few friends.

I go to a school which is here specifically for people with disorders in the autistic spectrum because they require specific attention. Although it is pretty well adjusted, it's not exactly as I would like it. Not much is adjusted to the needs of the individual. Although we stay in the same classroom the entire day and have just one teacher for humanities and scientific subjects (that makes two), they are still very different.

I attend a mainstream public secondary school. I find it ok. The teachers are alright, although one I had this year I felt didn't understand AS (and I had him twice). They are encouraging and supportive. I even had the principal say that I should go for student executive because I said to him that I want to have some sort of leadership role within my school.

I attend a public school in Michigan that's alright. The teachers are pretty good, or at least the ones I've had. I do have problems making friends but I do have some because from the robotics team. I mostly have taken advanced classes and that has helped as I find it easier to make friends with smart people.

I go to an art high school in California.

I used to like it at first, in fact I was very excited about it, now I just realize I miss all my friends from my old school. I have made some friends here, but they're nothing like my old friends.

Yeah the school is great, the art is challenging and fun, and the academics aren't as boring as other schools I've been to, so it's great, just a bit lonely.

my school is one for people with mental disorders, like aspergers, adhd and stuff like that. I think its pretty good because it has small class sizes but it also sucks because there are a few students who annoy and piss off as much people as they can and blame it on something( i'm quitting smoking, its because of my disorder, etc.) so its good but its sure as hell not perfect.

Wow, I really wish I went to a place like that! I went to look at a special school while I was looking at secondary schools, but it was really for people more severe than me, and it was all a bit "dumbed-down" (no offense intended for anyone who is more severe of course!). It just wasen't for me really.

Now, if I had a school which was a compramise, which was not meant for more severe people on the spectrum yet let you be yourself, make friends, etc, it'd be in heaven!

At the moment, though, I'm just in a normal secondary school. It's usually alright these days because I'm used to it.

I've been doing distance education for almost 4 years now after I found out that mainstream schooling (at a secondary school level) wasn't for me. It's pretty similar to homeschooling but instead of having my parents teach me I have one half hour phone lesson (for each class) with a teacher and a few other students each week where the teacher pretty much just tells you what you have to work on for the rest of the week.

On one hand it's really good because most of the teachers do take the time to explain stuff and the classes are really small (I once had a maths class with no other students; it was just me and the teacher which was great because I'm dreadful at maths). I also like that I can plan my whole schedule and work on the homework when I want to. If I want to work on my English homework at 5pm until dinner time then I can do that.

On the other hand I sometimes find it hard to get motivated to do my work since there is no teacher constantly looking over your shoulder, telling you what to do and when to do it. It can also get really lonely since I have pretty much no contact with any of the other people in my class outside of lessons and I have no friends or anything. I think I might join a club or something this year since I really need to interact with people more...

I also go to a specialist school, but some of the kids there could be called "severely disabled". I love it there; I have lots of friends and the teachers all understand about my needs. I bring in a vibrating tube thing, a sort of sensory toy, which I'm allowed to use in a quiet space if I need to calm down, and I do work with the OT on Tuesdays.

Hmmm...well, I'd say my school is fine for more severe and milder people. There are both, but I don't think it's "dumbed-down"; they just give us the work we can do, depending on our needs. For example, in maths, most of my class are doing GCSEs, but there are two who can't, so they just do different work with a support assistant.
