...in quotation marks?

I ask this because I was scrolling through my timeline on my first Facebook account (it got cluttered, and I needed to get away from it). I saw an old post I was tagged in, and I was tagged under: Someone who is a little "different".

I know different could either mean:
(1). Not the same as another or each other; unlike in nature, form, or quality.
Or (2). Novel and unusual.

I would've understood it if quotation marks weren't around the word different, but since there are quotation marks, I think something else may have been implied.

And feel free to go and look me up on FB (that is, if you have one). I don't pay much attention to that one anymore. Just identify yourself, and we'll be excellent.

Thats really hard to say, it really depends so much on the nature and wit of the person who wrote it.

For most intelligent NT people, being different, unusual, independent-thinking is admirable. That where human progress comes from, not from the herd but from those who stand out.

I can imagine it being said or written warmly, and to tease, but in a nice way.Friends warmly tease, I do it all the time. It really really depends on the person. Are they warm and smart?
If you like the person, trust your gut, and assume the positive.

The person who tagged me is an acquaintance. I forget who exactly tagged me, but a majority of the people on my friends list are just acquaintances. Nothing more, nothing less. But I suppose I could see where you're coming from on the matter.

Generally quotation marks mean that a word is not meant to be taken literally, more along similar meaning (thus the confusion you have is understandable). As in they are trying to find a word to describe you, but nothing 100% accurate seems to fit. It also generally shows someone is conscious of you in terms of what they are saying, so very likely there is nothing negative about it.

yeah I guess it can be confusing especially on facebook but it isn't all bad. I think that going to school after high school is something that would be both fun and challenging.

well, if they mean the same thing in written as they mean when they say it like that (something like: "well, you know, he is a little.... different....), they usually mean "weird", "strange", "disconnected" or other words of the same meaning; it is a polite way of saying those words as to not offend parents and/or friends
