does anyone like to stim?

I have always used stimming to get over emotions and calm myself down. I used to stim a lot when i was little. i had a trampoline which i would bounce on for hours. i also like biking because the repetitive action is like stimming. as ive grown older i have stopped stimming so much and i think i have internalized the repetitive action.

for me stimming is mostly in my head and i sort of go into an altered state of mind when i do it. i don't really know how to describe it but it feels a little bit like daydreaming. I have always wondered if other autistic people like to stim the way i do for recreation and calming.

also one last thing. i think it is messed up that pro-cure sites advertise medicines and therapies to treat stimming.. i can't imagine someone taking away my ability to stim it would be awful to not be able to do so. i find it really cruel that pro-cure sites take pictures and video of kids stimming. its such a personal thing to me and i wouldn't want anybody to take that and toss it out on the internet for the world to see.

I like twisting my hair a lot, though it doesn't do my hair much good!

My daughter likes to create a tremor in her leg, shake it as such. At first she said she couldn't control it but now she admits she uses it to ease her emotions and anxiety. It took the place of some more destructive stims she had earlier in life which is a positive thing for her. She loves to take off on a short bike ride too, just at a moments notice, it seems to relax her. :)

Wow, your ways of stimming sound extra-fun! I love trampolines! :D

I love pacing around in circles (sometimes big circles encompassing several rooms) while I think things through. I also go into a sort of trance usually when I do this. If you want to get right down to it, playing the piano and singing for me would probably fit into these categories; I definitely do both to soothe myself when nothing else works.

My mom used to put on music and I'd walk around in circles until she turned the tape off, sometimes for an hour or so. She said this was useful for when she needed to get stuff done and needed to keep me occupied. :D

I don't really know what constitutes stimming. In any case:

I like to spin, I like to hang upside down, I pace, I wring my hands, I like to go down hills on my longboard really fast (bad idea, as i have no helmet...), I like to go down hills on my bike really fast (bad idea ''), I like to roll down grassy hills, I like to swing and jump off.

I suppose my stim would be when I do this thing with my fists. You know the way you pedal a bike? I do that with my fists. That seems like the best way to describe it. I love it. I do it when I play games and daydream. It happens usually when I'm enjoying something. It's fun and doesn't feel right when I try to hold it back. I tend to do it without noticing sometimes.

I'm sure that it helps with nervousness or anxiety, but I've noticed that I do it whenever I'm thinking about anything, as long as my hands aren't busy. What is funny is that I've never been criticized for stimming, most people just think I'm on caffeine, which is true most of the time. Actually, one time when I was in the fourth grade I started flapping my arms like a bird, I didn't even know why I did it. Somebody had asked me if I was trying to fly and I realized how stupid it was. But I'd say that's about it.

I stim when I'm really happy I'll put my arms on the left to right sides of my head and put my hands in my fists and make this sound where I'm sucking my spit. I can't help it and I don't usually notice it until it's too late. Then once it's over there's nothing I can do.

When I'm nervous or anxious though I'll tend to move my hands around, think of the worse possible things at once and get all fidgity. When that happens I like to daydream or draw.

Twisting your hair isn't stimming. Lots of people do it. It's only stimming if it's an Aspie thing. Flapping your hands, excessive pacing, walking on your toes, or spinning would be stimming.

 Wrong.
Not only do people with Autistic Disorder usually stim a lot more than Aspies (and they certainly aren't Aspies), but any sort of repetitive action/motion/etc. used for sensory purposes (in the hair twirling case, it's the tactile sense) can be called self-stimulating behavior.

The amount of misunderstanding in your post is appalling.

Anyways, to answer the question, I love stimming.

I tend to carry a few stray poker chips in my pocket all the time and flip them over one another, its very relaxing.

I tap out syncopated rhythms, preferably on my bongos if I'm at home, but on any surface available. I also tend to play repetitive and soothing finger exercises on a guitar if I'm stressed and I am at home.

Other than those, which are arguably not stimming, I don't think I have any such mannerisms. Many people engage in finger-tapping or the auditory equivalent of doodling.

I did both of those when I was little; especially the scooter around the driveway. I did it for hours every day after school; the ultimate torture was inclement weather. And my punishment when I did something wrong or didn't do something I was supposed to would be something like "no scooter and/or bike for a week" or something. Very effective. It's kind of sad that that habit slowly diminished due to social pressures; no one else my age rides around on a Razor scooter in their "loop" driveway, so I just stopped. This was when I was much more interested in my peers, you see. Then once I stopped caring, I had gotten so out of the habit that I just stopped completely, even without the pressures of social acceptance.

Nice avatar, by the way. Totoro is great.
I have seen several Hayao Miyazaki avatars on this site; I had one from 火垂るの墓 (Hotaru no Haka) not too long ago. Maybe it was a month ago. Then I changed it to Dr. Michio Kaku.

If stimming is what you do when you get mad (repetitively), then I like to
***Ride my bike randomly
Pace around the room
***Use sign language
Click my fingers
Tap
Jump up and down
Do stretches
Sit down
Touch the wall
Hit something (floor, wall, etc)
Break wooden pencils (that really feels good, and is a hard habit to break)
Grind my teeth
Bite my cheek
Rub my hands together
Swing my arms
Itch my head
Bounce my leg in my chair
Type whatever really fast
Go for a run
***Go for a walk outside and pace

But my biggest 3 have stars by them
