Have you talked to your mom about this at all? I mean if she is willing to get you an iPad with cell phone service(if I understand right I am not too terribly knowledgeable about those devices) I don't see why she wouldn't see it as reasonable to get you a phone instead. Perhaps you could explain you'd prefer a phone because it's essentially the same thing as an Ipad but smaller and easier to carry with you. Not entirely sure how accurate that is but from what I understand an Ipad might as well be an over sized smart phone. Also you could point out that its a good idea to have a phone in case you end up in a bad situation and need to call someone to help or 911 if its an emergency situation...basically you might be safer having a phone.

You could also explain you want to be able to keep in contact with people, and feel like having a phone helps you do that. But yeah I am not sure how your mom is or how supportive/unsupportive she is or anything so depending on that it might vary how to approach talking about it.

Try writing a list about the pros of getting a phone then give it to her. It worked for me when I tried to convince my mom a few months ago.

1. A tech fact since im a tech guy ^_^as far as I know iPads only have cellular for things like Mobile Internet (4G,3G) not phone calls if my memory is correct, however they still have the ability to use iMessage and Facetime but these are Apple only services and youcan only send iMessages to people that own Apple devices to (iPad, iPhone, iPod)

2. Good reasoning would be in my view safety and to help improve you social life, possibly you could get away with the old "I feel left out because everybody else has one" but that can be a long shot, whatever you try good luck :)

I just got a new phone (which im writing this in school from) a few days ago after a month of asking. They finally got me one after I got dramatic and said I would shoot myself if I spent one more class with nothing to do but stare at the wall while everyone else is on theirs. You don't have to go that far, but you get the idea. Socialize, something to do, and most importantly safety are the best reasons to get one.

I am trying to make her see how bored I am without music but it's not working and I don't want to just ask for a phone straight up. This girl is basically my only friend and she doesn't seem to have many either. I'm getting desperate to be able to talk to her more and it'd be too difficult to do it in person. My mom knows she's the only person that makes me happy but she doesn't realize how bad I want a phone so I can text her. My mom keeps telling me I can use her phone but I don't feel comfortable since she will either see what we text or get suspicious that I deleted the conversation. Also the "bad situation" thing is a big deal for me because on Saturday I had to wait for 5 hours for my mom to come pick me up when I could've texted her right away if I had a phone.

Well tell her that, I know you maybe scared to but these are both vaild reasons (to talk to a friend and so you don't have to wait fir suvh a long time for ur mum to pick you up).
