Hey guys, I'm 16 years old, a junior in High School, and have recently begun to realize that i may have many of the characteristics of Asperger's Syndrome Here are some of my characteristics

About 2 1/2 years ago I left 8th grade in Michigan, where I had quite a few friends and was usually happy (although prone to occasional bouts of mild depression) to go to boarding school in India, where my parents are from. My freshman year was absolutely miserable, as I struggled to adapt to the new environment. I was frequently teased for my posture (which i have worked to correct), the way I ran, poor social skills, and inability to play most sports (basketball being the exception--I have no real talent but I am quite tall so shooting comes easily, but I get schooled by anyone who has played competitively). I was frequently depressed and occasionally contemplated suicide, though I believe i was far from an actual attempt. My grades, however, remained excellent, fooling my parents (mainly my dad) into believing that I excelled there. However, I did make a few good friends that I am still occasionally in contact with.

After leaving boarding school, I lived last year in Abu Dhabi with my parents. Again, I struggled to make friends and break into the "party culture" that was prevalent with the people there, and ended up being a loner most of the time. Again, my grades remained good.

This year my father's sabbatical ended and I moved back to the town where I am from in Michigan and am enjoying it. I have a close group of a few good friends who I've known for most of my life who I know care about me (though I sense that I can be annoying to them) and I have made a couple new friends as well. Life is overall pretty good, but i still get depressed sometimes.
Here are some of my attributes that make me think I'm an Aspie:
-Conversations (outside of my close friends) can be awkward and sometimes I don't know what to say.
-I have periodic obsessions, which usually pass in a month or two into something else, such as video games, weather patterns, airplanes, etc.
-I love math and numbers, (but I hate math that is monotonous and boring, it has to be stimulating and cause me to think)
-I am also very interested in science, especially chemistry and physics
-I am extremely logical, which causes me to have some weird views on things, i.e. I still do not understand why people cling to religion in the face of scientific evidence (no offense to any religious people here)
-However, I am also very philosophical and enjoy pondering the mysteries of the universe and what causes people to act the way they do
-My friends comment very often that i am speaking very loudly and that I am belligerent in debates
-I have never been in a real relationship, other than for a weekend a couple years ago with a girl I didn't really like.
-I am extremely clumsy, often dropping things, misstep-ping and in general "fail"ing
-My friends often comment that I am a very messy eater.
-Most of the tests online that I have taken have said that I have Asperger's, though I do not know if I should believe them.

Did you answer them truthfully?

The only way to know for sure is if you get a professional diagnosis. The internet is kind of vague.

I'm pretty sure I did, but a part of me believes that i just might be subliminally trying to make myself seem more aspie than i am. But overall, yes, I did.

Would discovering this about yourself change anything about you? Would it change how you think about yourself? Would it make you feel better about yourself?

Some of those questions might seem leading, but they're honestly not. Just some things to consider.

I agree with all the guys here. The internet tests are just for you to have an idea, I think. The best thing do is searching for a specialist, like Makayla said, and telling him everything about you. Then you'll have a precise and more reliable diagnosis.

I'm very much like you. I mean, I didn't know anything about the AS before, but I when I read about it I found out that I had many of its characteristics. Then I searched the net and found some tests, which I did. But I knew they weren't enough, and then I started looking for specialists (psychiatrists/psychologists) for to confirm it. It's still difficult, because some of them need enough time (which usually they don't have, at least here where I live) to know you well enough so that they can diagnose you. The psychologist I meeting with weekly is sure that I'm aspie, but psychologists here in Brazil can't diagnose people. So she sent me to two different psychiatrists/neurologists so that they could do the diagnosis. They still didn't, though they affirmed that I'm "in the spectrum". They feel the need to know people better before diagnosing, I think. It's such a long process.
