Any Aspies out there that can draw?

Second post here!

When I was first born in 1994, my parent's noticed something straight away about me - I could draw at a 6th grade level at the age of 3. In 2005, I was able to recreate the duel between Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi in Revenge of the Sith without looking at a picture for reference. Recently, I have dived into photo-realism in my senior year of high school. I was diagnosed with Aspergers syndrome in 2007. I have drawn incredibly detailed spacecraft & people without looking at a reference, my art teachers couldn't handle me because I already knew AP level concepts before even entering the classroom, and was unable to teach me new concepts simply because I was a better artist than my own art teacher. It has drawn (pun not intentional ) a lot of attention at school with my peers, and when words fail for me in a conversation, I just pop out a drawing. Often, even though I am often rejected socially, it has gained me quite the reputation with a variety of people from drama club to the rednecks, and trust me down south in Florida where I live - there's a lot of them! The most athletic girl in my class has told me again and again that she has hanged all the drawings I given to her on her wall of NASA missions. People just love them.

Does anyone else who has aspergers a skilled artist? If so, can you tell your story?

I have been diagnosed with Asperger's and I love to draw, but unfortunately I am not as skilled as I would like to be. Drawing was not a natural talent for me and I've had to work to improve at it. The only thing I am good at drawing is anime.

I love to draw, especially realistic animals. People tell me that I'm a decent artist but there are a lot of people who can draw better than I can. Like the OP, I was also born in 1994. XD I can't wait to see your art examples!

I had my own drafting set at age 12, If your gonna make something a good drawing is needed.

I also do alot of free hand "sketchs",..I'm always doodling.

For as long as I can remember I've been highly compelled to express myself in drawing. However, rather than helping me to gain an advantage in social situations I feel like my interest in creativity has somewhat alienated me from others. I noticed it mainly when I was younger as I have found it much easier to share my interests as a college student majoring in art. Still, I get mixed reactions to my work. Some find it appealing, others are a bit disturbed by it.

I draw (and paint) mostly people. I think my long-held interest in drawing faces could be partially responsible for why I have little difficulty in recognizing facial displays of emotion. Most of my drawings are narrative in nature and usually focus on stories that I have made up. It seems like the drawings are in effect the stories themselves since the inspiration that I get for stories is always in the form of a vivid mental image or a series of images. When I'm drawing I frequently get so wrapped up in my work that I sort of forget myself and my surroundings. It gives a sense of peace and euphoria that I highly cherish, especially when I'm feeling stressed. Since I do tend to draw to express my fears and anxieties the subject matter of my work can be a bit unpleasant at times, hence the reason why some object to it. But I keep drawing because it helps me feel better. My objective in these drawings is to transform the horrifying into the beautiful, to find comfort in my fears.

Artists who have inspired me include: Amano, Bacon, Goya, Fragonard and Boucher. I've also been highly influenced by the art in many of the fairy tales I read as a child (oftentimes done in a style reminiscent of Victorian fairy paintings). I am currently working on a series of paintings exploring the creative world that I have created and inhabited since childhood, comparing myself to the fairy-queen Mab, being a creature of dreams.

I used to draw all the time, and I was good at it for my age. My wall was totally covered in a strange combination of light saber duels, trains, and spacecraft launches (my favorite was the Saturn V). Then for some reason when I was about 10, I suddenly interest. I tried drawing again recently, and it's pretty bad.

I draw all the time. I prefer to draw things in a way that will FORCE me not to mess up, like drawing with just pen or drawing a drawing entirely made of polygons. My drawing style is an odd version of realistic, almost more comic-like.

I can sort of draw.

I've got the artisitc drive. I painted something pretty awesome in 1st grade. I've been drawing anime for about 13 yrs. I don't only draw anime but it's my fav and it's given me a good set of skills for all aspects of art. I'm actually trying to get into tattooing and that requires more realism than what I've been practicing so I'm studying traditional art more now.

Interesting. I draw stuff that I find challenging and new, but still in the same general field of space, weather, people, ect.

I've done research heavy into my question, and I can't seem to find people who can relate to this. I'm starting to wonder if its not due to aspergers, rather if I'm just naturally highly talented.

I've always loved to draw. I've still a lot to learn though.

Can I draw? Umm, I can make marks with a pencil to make pictures that look like something. Can I draw well? I don't think so.

Technically I can draw. In practicality it rarely turns out well. Usually when I start to draw, I wind up with an almost blank sheet of paper, and a worn out eraser. I'm going to take an art class next year, so hopefully that will help out a bit.
