I am 16 and going into 11th grade. I have two people who I talk to at school, but I don't hang out with them outside of it. My sister is in 6th grade and I seem to get along better with her age friends. My social skills are that of an eleven year old. My sister doesn't let me hang out with them that much and my parents think it's strange. Is anyone else in this situation?

In a few years, a five year age difference will probably seem negligible. Don't let it keep you from making friends.

I used to be in a similar situation, but don't let this get to you. If you feel more comfortable around these younger kids, then you shouldn't be ashamed of that. Try explaining to your sister and mom that these are people who are at your level socially. If the age difference really creeps people out, you can always volunteering with teens with intellectual and see if you get along with any of them. Most of my first friends had these disabilities, and they are the most accepting people around. This is another way to find people at your social level.

My diagnoses - social anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

I’m no longer involved with the ASD world.

Haha you're even worse off than me. I have the socio-emotional development of about 14 years, though, like you, I'll be a junior and 16 years in 5 weeks.

Since I was 12.5 ish, I've been 2 years behind, though I'm actually pretty straight/cool/nice so people feel bad for me.

I try my best.

I have a friend just like that. She tries to hang out with my sister but she doesn't like to, because my friend is bossy. I hope you aren't like that.
