Anybody else commonly told they have a cynical attitude?

Recently, I've been told by my peers that I have a very cynical/pessimistic attitude. I don't particularly care that much, but I found it strange as I never thought of myself as a pessimistic person.
Anyone else with Asperger's have the same experience?

Is this a trick question? LOL um, yes, lots.
Add 'negative' to the list.

"life's tough"
"reality's harsh"
"nobody said life'd be a bed of roses"
"it's a jungle out there"
"dog eat dog world"

I didn't make up these quotes. maybe other people ...
"can't handle the truth"

if they don't wanna see it, they probably don't wanna hear it either, and this is their way of hinting.
but don't quote me - I'm no good at hints.

I don't think I'm pessimistic, I'm certainly not depressed. I truly think I'm seeing things as they are and NOT as worse than they are.

People tell that to my dad, but he explains like this:
"I plan for failure so we can avoid it or have solution when it comes up."

People with aspergers are always misinterpreting social cues, saying the wrong things and drawing wrong conclusions from what people have said. Eventually they build up a cynical attitude because they can't trust that the world will deliver what they expect.
Well that's my opinion at least.

I have what I believe is a very realistic view on the world, but others probably would say I'm cynical.

I'm cynical, pessimistic and I believe in the egoistic nature of man. I'm pretty much a misanthrope actually. It's probably because of all the disappointments I've suffered but constantly distrusting others' intentions has prevented me from suffering more bad experiences.

I've been called cynical, pessimistically optimistic, aloof, grumpy, distant... Yep. I feel you. I prefer to think of myself as guarded and meditative, though. Even though I can be quite impulsive on the surface, there is a thought process behind it that goes through a subconsious pro's and con's list and I keep all that in mind whenever I make a decision. I'm very calm in a crisis which frustrates people sometimes but have saved their ass more than once, so I guess you could say I'm always one step ahead and prepared, based on my past experiences.

All the time. I'm pessimistic by nature, some people in my family should understand that.

Yes, I have been called that but I really don't believe that I am that pessimistic. My teachers often say that I am cynical in my essays which bothers me when you have the evidence to support your thoughts.

Sure. I'm an expert at finding faults in things, or possible things that could go wrong. Say someone tries to give me some advice - I'll come back with a bunch of reasons why it might not work. I then get told I'm being pessimistic, but I try to explain that if I just agreed with them, there would be nothing more to say and that's boring and not constructive. Just because I come up with negatives doesn't mean I won't end up taking their advice, it just means I need to think through (or talk through) each possible scenario to see if I still value the idea. Truly good advice would "pass the test" and I'd feel comfortable following it.

I find saying positive things meaningless a lot of the time. "Yeah I agree", "That's an awesome idea", "Sure, let's do that", "I think that too". Conversation over. I prefer to delve deeper first, THEN see if I still feel that way.

I'm a professional cynic, but my heart's not in it.

When I say cynical things people think, or at least want to think, that I'm just clowning around, and they take what I say as a joke.

Yeah. The question: Why are you so negative? translates into Taleijanese/Mashkanese as: Why are you such a cynical, pessimistic prick? Get a life!
