When I had my rebellious stage I rebelled against my peers and society, rather than my parents and adults. I'm curious if this is an aspergian trait, have any of you done the same thing?

As teenagers, we are practically part of adult society, though probably with Asperger's it is later than sooner.
See even as an 8th grader, I already noticed that my fellow classmates were basically surpassing the adults in their thinking, and it intensified in high school, DEFINITELY end of grade 10;age 16 has been culturally considered adulthood for God-knows-how-long...

That is the reason youth rebel, anyways, cuz we ain't little kids anymore, but we aint old and decrepit yet, and are still getting wiser.

If you didn't know, between 14 and 25, wisdom peaks, and then tapers off.

So yeah...if I were to rebel against my peers, it would include my teachers, many of whom are not far out of college themselves.

I mean...my parents, I can see them as real people and not just rule-makers (it's that teen wisdom kicking in, see), but I have to really think, it's not natural.

But again, see, we're all just youth, we're all essentially mentally deficient adults, we all have issues coming of age.
...And that is why we rebel.

I had a Secret Rebellion. That is, I withdrew emotionally from family, classmates, and teachers, and never told them what was going on inside me. The more assumptions they made against me, the further I withdrew, until I had essentially become a ghost-like figure in their lives.

Now, I am a cipher to them. None of my relatives seem to know what my interests are or care for my opinions.

There's little drama, and I like it that way.

I had an all around rebel mentality. Still do simply because I hate just about everything when it comes to how human nature and society is. Nothing will change that and I refuse to change my opinion on humanity/society unless it undergoes a DRASTIC change towards the positive.

@Fnord thats how a large part of mine was. although now I am much more vocal about my views on things. The surprising thing is I can convince people of things pretty easy, which should be hard for someone on the spectrum such as myself.

I can relate to that; I only extended interests and not emotions and later even withdrew mentions of interests, as they would often get attacked (much of what i listen to is considered "nu metal" for instance, so good early 2000s alternative metal got clumped in with crappy rap-metal bands.)

Withdrawal is a nice defense mechanism, which most normal people will never understand. It can lead itself to depressing isolation if done too often, though.

Misanthropy is nice in degrees, but it is destructive in excess. Might wanna analyze how much of humanity is worth hating.

Heh, hear that enough. There are things I don't hate about it but the majority I hate due to the fact that what I hate is exactly what holds humanity back, yet humanity is far too @*#&%$^ stupid to fix itself. That would be the best way to sum up my misanthropy. Plus it is more on the philosophical side.

I can easily say being optimistic about humanity/society's current state is the equivalent of wrapping a piece of s**t up in a fancy box and acting as if it isn't what it actually is. s**t is s**t, no matter "how" it is presented.

I agree; just have to find what you enjoy in life to keep your mind off how crappy people really are and how it damages this Earth. Just be part of the solution, not the problem and you're better than most.
