As a teen, I could meet new people, but I tried to avoid it. I was always a bit anxious and timid around new people.

I had social anxiety from 13 onwards. Don't know about before then though.

I am and always have been painfully shy. I am afraid of strangers. I am curious about others, from a safe vantage point. Once, a couple of years ago, while I was in working in different (small) lab, there was an crisis/emergency and the secretary had to be away for 10 days. So, for 2 days I was supposed to fill-in for her, just retrieve faxes, check the mail, and answer the phone (ouch). Anyway, when a stranger entered the office, like a new client, I actually ducked behind the desk. I couldn't ever do her job - ever. I a scientist, not a receptionist.

:(
But at least I have my cat and my computer

I was ridiculously shy as a child. The word "shy" doesn't begin to cover it. I'm really not anymore though.

I have social anxiety as well, but I have overcome it to a pretty good level. I wonder if it's worth it, all that we do to become 'normal'. I feel like it's denying who we truly are and who we are meant to be - demeaning AS and ourselves in the process. Oh well, makes living easier.

I've learnt that you can't really 'fix' it, because it's always there at some level - especially social anxiety. You just have to work your way through it and find ways to lessen its effects. Also, learning techniques and staying away from situations that 'trigger' the anxiety really help. You have to become aware of these things.

I'm still shy.
But it's probably because I'm not very good around people.
As I improve my social skills I'll probably (hopefully!) become less shy.

When I was 3, I thought that being shy was not wanting to talk to people.

So therefore, I would walk up to adults who approached me and tell them that I was shy, in order to keep them from talking to me.

I remember in elementary school I would always want to rent books from the library but I was too shy to approach the librarian.

As a kid,I wasn't all that shy. I was actually talkative and liked to play with other kids, somewhat.

Now,I'm a bit anxious and timid around new people, but I wouldn't say that I'm mow PAINFULLY shy.
