Just got to thinking about the folks who have a hard time during holidays like Hanukkah, Christmas, New Years, etc.

If anyone is feeling poorly about them, do you care to share?

I'm doing pretty good because my daughter will be with me for the week of Christmas and we'll just relax and do some fun stuff.

I'm not putting any pressure on myself to buy presents for everyone this year, especially since I can't afford it.

The very least, I will send cards.

I just want the whole deal to be as low-key as possible.

With any luck, we'll get snow close enough to go skiing and snowboarding (my daughter loves blades - short skis, I snowboard).

I have discussed this with my gf, if we can have a really low-key holiday season. She has agreed and I think is good with it.

It just all gets to be over-blown and all about shopping and whose got so many lights on thier house you can blind the neighbors. Make no mistake I like giving presents and such. It just sucks if people get bombarded and brain-washed by retail holiday marketing... makes it all seem like it is about greed.

The day after thanks giving I saw news videos about the sales and people trampling each other to get the deals, running through the stores... it blew my mind and reaffirmed my personal "No Cure" beliefs... LOL

I like to hit the mute button when the holiday shopping commercials come on

I also am not big on gatherings, there are very few peeps I want to hang out with and break bread with.

It has always been a wicked time of year for me, but I think this year will be a bit better.

I'm actually kinda looking forward to meeting my family this Christmas. By family I mean only my parent and two brothers. Sometimes I think my whole immediate family is somewhere in the autistic spectrum. One of my brothers is for sure.

What I am not looking forward too is my lab's Christmas party. Last year I spent most of the time outside in the cold hiding behind a truck. There's more people this year but I'm also now taking medication so I have no idea what's going to happen.

Yea holidays are rough, too much going on at once. I have to buy so many presents, i hate shopping especially during this season, luckily my bf is going to help me with anything i need, even if that means doing most of the shopping for me.

Due to maladaptive genes, I guess I should feel a little lucky having so little family to disrupt my routine during holidays.

What about people going on holiday? Should they have a support thread too? Being in an unfamiliar environment can cause homesickness, particularly for Aspies. And don't call it 'vacation'. Gah!

Well I will try and visit the remnants of my family but usually they all have there own plans. Usually one or two of my neighbours invite me for Christmas dinner and I will imbibe in plenty of beer.

I have had all sorts of rotten Christmases most on my own, I always miss my Mother who's birthday was 23rd December and now I will very much miss my Father who died Christmas eve 2005 although I had not spent Christmas with him for 27 years when I was quite unwell and delusional :(

But then; Hey Ho this one has got to be better :)

Now there's an idea... I think I will put that on my answering machine. "I'm sorry I missed your call... I'm in a medically induced coma till January 2nd. Happy Holidays!"

Oh and then I can add, "...if this is the neighbors, it's your fault for putting all those lights up. Next year just string them on the inside of my sunglasses and beat me with that 10 ft tall santa you have in your yard."
lol... J/K 8)

my primary concern is about new years eve. where i live, people are either incredibly stupid, or just mentally insane. why would a grown man trow firecrackers the size of a teapot into a playhouse?! and kids down to the age of 5 play with fireworks. and im not talking about 5 cents firecrackers, i'm talking BIG rockets. my home turns into a war zone, and my father dosnt even dare to send my little sister out to play from the 21 of December until the 15 of January, or so.

is that really necessary?

I like low-key best.

I haven't even been out to the mall yet.
I won't until next year sometime if I don't have to.

Ditto.

Bad memories, fake cheer, familial interrogations... go on, expose my failings.

Yeah. cold weather and being locked up indoors with nowhere to go. Everyone else has friends to be with, well good for them.

Bah humbug...
