...not that will pass censor, I'm afraid. *whistles innocently* I'll try to be semi-professional: melodramatic... anything else that comes to mind starts sub-grouping the subgroup.

Letting it all hang out topic

When I was young Emo types were called weepy, emotional or needy. Nasty terms were crybaby, suck or sissy. I guess the word "emo", like "meh", has become a meme.

Everyone is emo. Never hold in your feelings, we all have to let them out by talking about it or else we will blow up eventually.

I don't like when being emotional is labeled as being emo.
As for the style, well, there's only one word for it.

Hate it. It has too many meanings. Also, people are afraid to show any negative emotion now for fear of being labelled 'emo'. f*****g stupid. It's a horrible stereotype - someone who behaves in a disgustingly mopey, self-centered, miserable way purely to gain attention, who is actually happy and privelledged but wants to leech off others pity and feel special. I really think there shouldn't be this stereotype, let alone a word for it that people use frequently in everyday conversation.

Emo is a market created by Hot Topic. It has a subculture, the 'scene kids'. It may be a way for kids to get attention, or express themself (not so good, since I can't tell any emo kids apart. They all look the same.)

The emo stereotype has been explored in the latest south park episode. Watch it!

I voted the "meh..." thing - i dont know
all about what "emo" is, theres so many
labels and i`m getting older, hard to keep
up. This is what i assume "emo" is; a short
for "emotional"/being emotional and from
what i have noticed so far it usually drift
towards the negative sides of life. So when
someone say they are "emo", i sort of
assume they show their emotions alot
and let people know when they feel bad.
Other things i connect with it, is dark clothes/
hair/nail polish for example and a kinda dark
look at things, not so often satisified or happy
because they dont see anything to be happy
about, some might just be too spoiled to know
any better. Breaking a nail can feel hard if you
have never broken a finger or five. The majority
seem to be between 13-18, i rarely see any 35
year olds saying they are "emo". As a kid i might
have qualified as a "emo" at some times, but i
locked the door, closed the curtains and waited it
out when that happend, when i felt bad. I wanted it
to go away so i didnt try to hang on to it or dress
and act like i felt all the time, that would just have
been pouring gas on the fire for me.

I noticed this; "Emo personality". Not sure what that is,
but if it is some condition doctors treat, write articles
about and work to cure or find ways to work with, then
i guess i`m way off and should appologize, haven`t
looked it up or anything.

I remember trying hard to be a goth. I was told that being an emo was the same as being called a "goth wannabe". I lived up to the stereotype so much that I actually ignored people that dressed up like preps or any of the "popular" people. I do feel "emo" most of the time, but it's all real pain, I may dramatize it sometimes, but I really shouldn't do that and only do that in poetry or story writing. I shouldn't do that in real life where people can be afraid for me and of me.

I know there are people afraid of me or just see me as the "quiet girl". I have an online friend that labels herself "emo", but I give her a break, she's only 14. I try lifting her spirits up gently by giving her some praise on her videos on yt or if she does feel sad and such I'll try to cheer her up by telling her I've been there and I am still there in many ways.

I have quite a few depression symptoms but I don't think it's too intense or enough to diagnose me with it. I am sad most of the time, it's very hard for me to get out of it. I have thought of suicide before, but I wouldn't actually do it.

I don't consider myself a label at all. It's immature to label yourself any of those things, it's not really necessary.

Its just a word to stereotype people who look like this http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q ... ages&gbv=2

Seriously, at least around here, it seems to be more about fashion then personality. I just think its funny when people intentionally dress that way for the purpose of looking emo and then complain when they get called it.

I think goth is cool, but it makes me mad that Self cutters are labeled as emos by ignorant kids. Thank you for the link.

I try to ignore the existence of the emo subculture as much as I can.
Emo to me will always be a sub-genre of punk, nothing more.

That's why when people call me emo I say 'I'm about as emo as Ian Mackaye'. Huh? Ian Mackaye from Minor Threat - how is he emo? Easy, he was in an actual emo band called Embrace.

Everyone calls me emo at school, just because I have floppy hair
Anyway emo is a music genre, you can't be a music note. I think this emo stuff is getting out of hand seriously, there's so much crap going on, what with that hannah bond case last year etc
