When I was in middle school, whenever I would tell an adult, I would always be told that it is my fault. In fact, I did not even feel secure telling an adult that a fellow student had threatened me with a gun.

I know that here in Rochester MN, things are like I said above. A parent I know recently told the principal that he cannot teach his child to go to an adult if there are problems if the adults at the school will not listen to him. Sometimes telling an adult is not an option.

When I was bullied and went to an adult, I was told that I was making things up, that I was a tattletale, or that it was my fault. Then again, this was maybe 18-20 years ago when this happened, but apparently Columbine hadn't changed things.

Earlier this week, there was a report on the local news about a kid who was knocked over, and the bullies put the video online. Fortunately, the administration of the middle school where the victim and the bullies went suspended the bullies, and they're facing expulsion. The victim ended up with a fractured arm, which is lucky as he could easily have suffered more serious injuries as he hit the ground pretty hard. The only reason the bullies are being punnished is because they put the video on the internet, which made this middle school look bad.

No it doesn't.

They tell them to stop.

Then they give them lunch detention.

Then they say that it's either my fault or I'm lying.

Usually, the third thing comes first, then every time after that.

Adults don't give a s**t.

Why would it? That'd require that the people that make decisions can observe and learn things.
If that sort of thing was going on, the school system would probably be a lot less gruesome already.

 Bless your heart! I don't think anyone could tell you to "Build a Bridge and Get over it" My heart really goes out to you. Kids can be sooo stupid, they don't think that what they say can really do damage. I never had many problems in school..However, I was always for the people that got picked on. Whoever said that to you will eventually come back on them...maybe not know buy someday. You reap what you sow!! !
I don't know if this will help but you are such the better person...these people in school will more than likely have nothing to do w/ you as an adult. You wonder what kind of parents they have. Try to pick yourself up! You are totally in my prayer!
Hugs,
Dana

In middle School, what works is returning the favour (for a while)
In Upper School, you're pretty much doomed.
It's the 'This isn't the first time' ****

Then I must be lucky the ones I know do. (mabey they dont care cause they already have enough problems in there life and are to busy to care about the problems that there students have)

I got a note from a Doctor saying I couldn't be in PE in Junior High. Does that work where you live?

I liked sports. I was good at them, but nobody would practice with me, I got picked last from being unpopular, etc.

This was worst in middle school. High school, I went back to PE and liked it again.

Bullys suck and they deserve to get treated just as badly as they treat others.

BTW, I am so proud of you that you are taking this to the California Board of Education and standing up for yourself. Smiling from ear to ear :D

i had problems with teachers. nothing helped until my brother and his friends started helping me.. i don't like to think the only answer is to get someone bigger and stronger to beat them up (many of them deserved it though). I was told by some teacher to avoid them, how was that supposed to work, most of my bullies were on the bus. 30 kids, one bus driver, one 85 pound little freak girl... not really the best odds (note: not all of them bullied me, some watched and did nothing, and the ones that did help got dragged down with me.)

Damn thats a horrible thing to say. One of my only friends Daniel - when we were at school he was such a lovely young man (thankfully nothings changed there) and I dont know why it was but shortly after his older sister had died as a result of childbirth complications a guy at school said to him:

"Now your sisters died cant the rest of your family do so".

I couldnt believe it at the time and had I been a stronger person I would have smacked him around the head - now violence isnt cool and doesnt always sort out problems but you know - thats just not appropriate. I dont know how my friend dealt with that but he did. Took it in his stride, even now he doesnt let it get to you.

But Ill tell you what......

The bully became a Police officer (how the hell did that happen). One night he had handcuffed a prisoner and then beat him up. He was caught and was punished through the courts. Daniel told me since that this guys father used to beat him up when he was younger - no that its an excuse. Daniel on the other hand has gone on to become a Dr in pyshco physics and through his knowledge has helped me out no end.

You need to find some way of dealing with this. Dont act on it though as its very bad advice. POssibly what you should do is write a letter to the principal of your school letting him know from a third person point of view that the comment was made in the first place. The principal will confirm this with you and the student. The student will feel that someone who heard him/her didnt like what they said and will hopefully refrain from doing this in the future.

Tell a school counscellor as well - perhaps they will speak to him.

Good luck with it though!

Can you get a doctor's note excusing you from P.E. Maybe get a note from a psychiatrist saying it's not good for your mental/emotional health.

Plan B fake an injury during p.e. class and develop a limp as a way of not being forced to participate in p.e.

i am not saying it should be done, but it seemed to be the only thing that kept me from being beaten up. at the time i didn't even know he was doing it.. nothing else worked with these people, he only really ever beat up one guy, but it did stop them from doing really mean things to me and my friends and that is all i was saying.

i didn't mean to make it sound like i support violence and i am sorry if it came off that way.

I think what Raph522 is trying to say comes down to this:
Violence is the last resort of the scoundrel but when you're dealing with a scoundrel at their last resort then sometimes the only way to defeat the enemy is to play at their level.

That is absolutely awful. I am soo sorry for what you have had to go through. No one should have to go through that. I had problems with PE, too. Not nearly as severe but it just wasn't made for me. One look at this post and anyone should agree you should get out of PE. Good luck. You are right here.
