I feel the isolation today. Mardi gras is the time when my city comes alive with sights, sounds and communal celebration that makes it special. I can't feel like i'm a part of it. I get overloaded by all the stuff going on around me. As a result I have to stay far away and just can't seem to connect with the people I see enjoying themselves. Worse my family and friends think i'm a weirdo as a result and that just makes the sense of being cut off even worse. It's giving me the blues.
I feel something similar- My "narrow focus of interest" has always been skateboarding.. I was brought to a Mardi Gras in 1995, and despite the "fun" and mass amounts of exposed boobies around me, I was only there to find new places to skate.. while I walked through it all on Bourbon st. holding my skateboard.
