I have ear and sinus problems and that makes mild colds unbearable for me. It's really isolating because people expect you to carry on with just a common cold, and call you a weakling or a wimp if you stay off work.

My sinuses have always been a problem for me. With even the slightest cold, I get so blocked up that it's impossible to get to sleep, which makes me feel groggy and lack concentration in the day - and THAT is actually what makes me iller than the actual cold itself. But people don't understand that.

When I get a cold I do everything to help myself; prop pillows up, breathe in strong obas oil, take cold medicine, drink both hot drinks and cold drinks, and I also eat. But I still cannot get to sleep. My ears dry out completely, causing uncomfortable itching and aching, and so much mucus travels down the back of my nose and into my stomach, which causes nausea and stomachache.
The last time I got a cold I got so much mucus caught in my lungs that I found it impossible to cough it up. Thankfully that only lasted about a day.

The worst thing about having a cold is the constant tickly stingly itch in your nose, making you feel like you're about to sneeze but can't. It feels like there's a sharp cactus up there right between your eyes. Ahh! I hate it!

And it makes it worse to get a sleepless night then have to get up early the next morning to go out in the freezing cold and go to work, physical work for 6 hours, and finding it so hard to focus on anything because of the lack of sleep.

Horrible. I hate getting colds. People around me are coming down with them and I just hope I don't catch one.

I have lived with a similar experience most of my life.
I recently underwent surgery, they removed a polyp and cleaned out infection there in my sinuses. Since then I tend to get either the flu, or bronchitis, which is a seldom occurrence.

I used to get colds and flus all the time which would drag on and on until I started taking probiotics daily. I took the probiotics(various kinds, didn't seem to matter which strain) to help with my IBS, they didn't help my IBS, but they did certainly boost my immune system. Now if I get a cold which I rarely do, it only lasts a couple days at most before it was gone. The same cold my mother has carries on for weeks and barely even touches me.

Colds don't bother me so much, but I'm hypersensitive to stomach problems of any kind, so I feel for you!

At the risk of being super tiresome, have you tried neti pot? or, as a lesser mode, snort warm water?
I think it's really worth trying. Even I feel a resistance, but if I'm suffering enough I'll get out of bed in the middle of the night and snort water, hating every instant (1 minute, maybe) and then go back to bed and sleep like a baby.

Blessings on you and your health, may your way go well.

Except that I'm very prone to cold, I almost don't need meds for it, and colds usually lasts less than a day for me. Though I usually have the same problem.......

... Almost everyday. :x Almost every day I woke up TO every night before sleeping.

As someone with chronic allergy?nonallergic? rhinitis, I'm sick and tired of sneezing, clogged nose, blown ears, and breathing difficulty. It impedes the quality of my life the most than anything else. And the best med that worked for me only lasts an hour.

I still have no idea why I haven't got any lung problems, hearing and balance issues or any sort that would relate to constant sneezing.

I used to get colds all the time from a fella at work whenever I had to work with him.
I started taking Vitamin D, this is now years ago and when I do still catch a cold, they are now so mild, I hardly know I have one.
A Peeress at work said to me, "I am always catching colds in this place", I told her about vitamin D.
Some months later she comes up to me and says "You were right!, I haven't had a cold since and now I am telling all the other Lords".
