Monday I took him outside to go potty and when I brought him in he was limping on his left leg, then he refused to walk on it, so I took him to the vet. He's a Papillon, so they thought his kneecap had dislocated...gave him some pain meds and anti-inflammatories, told us to keep him mostly at rest. Did that, but last night about 11 pm I tried to take him outside and he couldn't bear weight on either leg and he was acting odd, drooling a lot, and they admitted him to the veterinary hospital overnight. This morning I got a call from the vet that his pupils are unequal and today I'll be taking him to the university vet hospital to see a veterinary neurologist and get an MRI of his brain done. Being this is my field in human medicine I can only think of the bad things this could be    He's only 5 years old!   I don't want to lose him!

I'm so sorry to hear your dog is sick. I hope there is something that can be done to help. I have a dog too, & it would break my heart if something bad were to happen to him.

Hugs,

Tomboy

Unfortunately, my poor little guy died tonight. He had some sort of inflammation in his brainstem. Tried treating it with antibiotics and high dose steroids but it was very bad and he didn't make it. I'm going to miss him terribly  He always knew how to cheer me up when I was depressed. RIP Rex...you were loved.

I miss him already

The vet school is going to do an autopsy at no charge and use him as a teaching case because what happened to him was so weird and took him so fast. He was only 5 years old, poor thing. He was the sweetest dog, never aggressive, always friendly, would never, ever bite anyone (although he'd lick everyone). Life sucks.

My cat is getting old, and I try to watch her for unusual activity (or none at all) to try to be sure she does not suffer long at all when her own time comes, and I commend you for paying such close attention to your dog.

Do you plan to get another?

Oh no! I'm so sorry, Meow101, that your little dog didn't make it. Hopefully the vet school will learn something that might save other dogs in the future. But it still sucks.

Hugs,

Tomboy

Sorry for your loss Meow. I lost one of my dogs last year and I still miss the fellow dearly.
