It's not paranoia if they are plotting against you

So really, I am sooo f*****g fed up. When does it ever ...aaaaaaargh

Last night I had a dream that this guy from work was complaining about me to everyone. So that's a bit weird and out of ordinary and I remembered it enough to mention it jokingly when I saw this guy at work today. He was with another (female) colleague and when I had said that I had dreamed that he was complaining about me to everyone he just stared at me then the female colleague burst out laughing and said That wasn't a dream and then he laughed and said Yea, that wasn't a dream. I was too confused to say anything else and just continued chatting with them for a bit but later I thought - hang on - that's a bit off - why would he have cause to complain about me to anyone, let alone everyone?

So now I am all paranoid. Obviously.

 :shaking:

Do you think she might have been joking?

well yes, but usually the jokes of that kind have some sort of reference to reality. To be honest, I guess I was expecting him to say something like I would never complain about you, or whatever. Although maybe she was referring to him complaining about everyone all the time, he does moan an awful lot..

I'd take it as a joke LP.

I know how easy it is to get paranoid though.

man i hate feeling paranoid. i feel like this a lot it is way better to shake it off and think of it as a joke. there could be a million different reasons why and being an aspie if your anything like me means you will examine every single million of them. and waste a perfectly good day. if he is known to moan a lot it was probably a reference to that trait

Unless this guy is a very fast and straight faced comedian, and if I try to be sleuthly, I would say mentioning him talking bad about you caught him off guard and at least a little guilty. The woman was faster on her feet and tried to cover it up as a joke which the guy went along with.

Does Mr Whinny complain about others to you? If so he is at least a inclusive backstabber. If he doesn't then he might have a particular dislike for you. But that is not reason to be alarmed. The dislike of a jerk is a good thing in a roundabout way, as jerks dislike anyone who is not a jerk like them.

I may be wrong, but I would not trust him implicitly or confide confidental things in him now, just to play it safe. In other words he lost his classified clearence with you. See if he gets it back over time or shows his hand as an adversary again.

No, not necessarily. I quite enjoy messing with people's heads that way sometimes.

They probably didn't realize just how uncomfortable and paranoid it was going to make you feel, but if they really had been talking about you behind your back, the first thing they would do is deny it and act like you were worrying over nothing.

Remember, it's a common thing for the Aspergian brain to take something literally, when it was not intended that way. :?

if you are having a dream about complaining, perhaps something is bothering you. repressed, or unexpressed emotions may surface. I looked up dream interpretations. just for fun. it said something like that. I would look into why you had a dream like that, instead of worrying about the guy. your dream may be trying to tell you something. everyone talks about other people. you can count on it. and yes... it is pritty funny... and quite unlike sarcastic humor.

Thanks everyone, I am reassured that so many of you think it was just a harmless joke.

Thanks for throwing the spanner in the works! :P 8O He definitely complains a lot about all manner of people but I just can't imagine what cause he would ever have to complain about me - like, there just isn't anything I can think of, except for the fact that in the dream he was complaining that I was nice to this guy but not to him, so maybe he complains to people I am not nice enough to him. That would sort of make sense. Although I am really nice to him but he maybe needs more niceness, idk.

This really wouldn't have even been a big deal at all if it wasn't based on the dream and my dreams are very Cassandra like in their quality.
It was such a weird dream, in so many ways. It was probably about this though..how circular.

Yeah... I know. :P But I am pretty much stuck on giving my honest opinion even if it is at variance with the flow.

I can't say for sure which it is, but still think there is logical evidence to support both theories. Knowing he is a chronic complainer I would then lean towards him having talked behind your back but probably not having something against you specifically.

Complainers want to complain. They get some weird satisfaction out of it. You don't have to do anything specific for him to complain about. He will come up with something. In this case the girl was not making a joke about you being paranoid, but was simply calling him out in a joking way (making light of it).

But if I am right he will think twice about doing it again, for you have put the Mojo fear in him. Btw do you sink or float in water?

I agree. This sounds like a possible Freudian slip on all sides, so I would play it safe around him, especially since he loves to complain about people to anyone who will listen...Ever wondered whether a gossipy person would ever, in a million years, gossip about you? The answer is yes, in a heartbeat, so take responsibility for what you tell people like that. The best response next time you see this guy is probably to smile and giggle as if, wasn't all of that a funny joke....teeehehe! :)

Oh but I know that is true! And even if he did complain about me, fine, I can live with that, I would just really want to know what it was about! 8O
