What can I do to be more optimistic? I mean, I'm always negative, and people don't like me for it. I see my life as being bad, but I don't even know why!

Well I think you should start with "How can I be less pessimistic?"

I'm sorry that I don't have anything better than that.

It's really a matter of where you stand...in other words, it pertains to your point of view...

The thing is, if your mind is strong enough to make the world seem entirely miserable and negative, it is also strong enough to do the opposite...
To the depth your mind can be negative, so can it achieve positivity...
In other words, your mind is capable to make the world seem positive and hopeful...just as much as it was capable to make it seem miserable...

You have the power to choose optimism...

Optimism is overrated. Optimism isn't always positive. Optimism can be painful because it can give false hope. To be more positive you just need to have a better attitude about what already has happened instead of what is going to happen.

No, that's some really good advice. You can't change who you are - and you seem to be a pessimist by nature. So instead, try to scale it back, be less pessimistic. It will always be there, but just get a bit of control over it. You can't suddenly become something you're not, no matter how hard you try.

Actually, trying to be less pessimistic is in itself a negative action, which your subconscious has trouble recognizing, so it would be easier to go about being more optimistic. You could say, "don't dwell on angry thoughts" or "let your thoughts drift away from anger," which are both basically the same thing, but the latter is easier for your subconscious to understand. Uh, by the way, try to avoid dwelling on anger; that seems to be your main problem. All it will ever do is make you unhappy.

OP: Don’t worry about it, if certain people cannot accept you for who you are; fug ‘em.

Being “negative” or “positive” only determines your outlook of the situations that are presented to you; it doesn’t inhibit your ability to act, only how you act (if that) – acting “positively” or “negatively” to anything and everything is an equally valid concept because there isn't a clearly defined axiom for "life" (there never will be). Both offer unique answers to the questions posed.

Forcing yourself to change that which you innately are will cause you endless pain….

As the eternal optimist, I can tell you it sucks.
You always have unrealistic expectations and
when they collapse, the whole world goes with
it.

Pessimists have it much easier, as every good
thing seems a bonus.

Curmudgeons are cool too (when I was happy
I was one), as they can take pleasure in watching
things go wrong.
