...I inhaled acetone without realising what it was. As soon as the smell jerked my head backwards I got the message. Ten minutes later I'm posting this message.

Will I die?

(It's another lesson learnt I suppose.) ;)

Well, at some point, yes, you are going to die (:P), but I don't think inhaling a small amount of acetone is going to cause all that much trouble. Couldn't recall all of the effects, so I looked it up as best as I could.

women, a shorter menstrual cycle.

Acetone is the same thing as nail polish remover...no you will not die from inhaling a small amount. But, stay away from all chemicals as no one knows what really happens inside your body over time. One should even use rubber gloves when one uses cleaning products...and even doing laundry, and handling bleach, should require one to wear safety glasses. But who does?

If you are puking a good amount, you should start by going outside and trying to get some fresh air. If you start to feel too light-headed, you should consider seeing a doctor. If anything, going with the latter is never a bad choice, better ot err on the side of caution.

I wouldn't say that you are "done for."

I'm dying here. No, I'm not really. Just paranoid. I picked up a bottle of the stuff while in the bath and gave it a quick sniff. I'm not puking here or anythin, just feel worried.

(Maybe we should have a thread entitled 'A lesson learnt'?)

If it was just a quick sniff, you should be fine. I don't know how much of that stuff I've accidentally inhaled or gotten on my skin over the years, probably more than is considered "healthy," but at least thus far I haven't seen any ill effects. That's not an encouragement to go and sniff it whenever you get the urge to, but you shouldn't be overly concerned if you just did it the once on accident.

OK. Fair enough. :)

(I am a stupid boy. It wasn't labelled 'nail polish remover - not for sniffing').

would it be an interesting study to compare the menstrual cycle of women who wear lots of nail polish and those who don't.
Tequila, you are ok but your menstruation will now be erratic...

The amount you describe won't kill you.
Inhaling a larger amount over a longer period of time would kill some brain cells though.

What's the UK equivalent?

Anyway, if you have no actual symptoms, it's fine, but don't do anything that silly again.

You should be fine...a headache maybe.

I used to have this thing about switching the color of my nail polish every day, sometimes more...basically one chip and I had to redo all of it...inhaled enough nail polish remover to probably fry my brain at some point.

I grew out of that eventually...thankfully. Now I can't stand the stuff.

I'm sure that you'll be fine. I hope that you're feeling better. :clown:
