Take measurements of the energy field, noting the frequency, amplitude, and harmonic content of the emissions using 3-dimensional grid coordinates. Then post your findings here. I'll do my best to analyse them and provide advice for counter-measures. English or metric units are acceptable, and I won't charge for the first analysis.

Preliminary ideas that may be relevant:

1.It has been discovered that evil spirit phenomenon and haunted house phenomenon is usually caused by Carbon Monoxide (and sometimes other toxins). Do you have a CO detector? ... You didn't specify the type of negative energy so this probably isn't it.

2.Are you sensitive to specific sensations in your house which can be fixed such as...?
-Gloomy colors of paint or wallpaper?
-Irritating noises?
-Irritating smells or allergens?
-Too much light or noise at night?
And if so, could you try different colored lights, sounds, or fragrances?
(Put your favorite color bulb in a small lamp, listen to calming sounds such as ocean waves, use an air freshener. ... Maybe also put nice art or posters up on the wall.)

I learned early on about my sensitivity to such places. I find mostly there is a 'residue' of the thought forms others have had during greatly disturbing situations in their own lives. My own energy tends to harmonize and resonate with those feelings like one would hum the same musical pitch of a vacuum or a fan.

I have found that using a steamer cleaner of forced superheated steam to strip the grime off of corners and moldings allows that residue to release itself. When they stated that 'cleanliness is next to godliness' that is what I think they meant. Once it is cleaned and after I take off the rubber gloves and allergy mask, I smudge with sage and lavender and place a couple of grains of big grained salt in the corners. It usually does the trick.

For years I had to keep my house stripped down to white paint and no pictures on the walls, sparse furniture, incandescent total spectrum lighting and above all absolutely no stink pretty air fresheners.

Put me in a room with stink pretty air fresheners or someone wearing clothing washed in fragranced laundry soap and fabric softener et cetera and its a given I'll be pulling my hair out and walking into walls.

I don't keep my house neat and tidy because I enjoy house work.
I keep it neat and tidy because I need it to be neat and tidy.

Amen sister/brother! I am compelled to keep a sanitary and tidy place for the same reasons.

I acknowledge your preference.
Notice though that these things are a factor in it, and less is more (better) for you.

What kind of energy do you think it is? Could it be described as supernatural? If so, it's probably not real (I'll hold on absolutes until I find a way to definitively prove a negative). If you can find some evidence of its existence other than the way you feel, then show us that and we'll gladly help you.

If it's some known type of energy (magnetic field, for example), it's probably not causing a problem, but we can't help unless we know what it is.

Source? That could be one cause, but the evidence seems to show that these phenomenon are usually associated with people rather than places. If you move, your haunting will go with you. The most reasonable naturalistic explanation is that it's entirely in the head of the person experiencing the phenomenon and has an internal cause. CO or other toxic chemicals and whatnot might cause similar ill feelings or even hallucinations, but short of these you pretty much have to go with a supernatural explanation. I personally find that absurd and unnecessary.

An excellent book - Psychic Protection by William Bloom. This book really is the business for cleansing the home of bad vibes, negative energy, whatever you like to call it. I bought this when we moved into our house about 15 years ago. There was a horrible lingering atmosphere. I learned a few years later that someone died in the house but it wasn't 'haunted', just a sad, stressful atmosphere. Anyway doing the things he talks about in that book helped me to clear it using just everyday things, salt, sound, incense. It's not 'airy fairy',just a practical approach to clearing negative energies.

I can't go into everything he says in the book but here's something you could do right away. You have to start with a clean house. Then put a bowl of ordinary household salt in the centre of your main living room for a few days with just a quick thought that that's where the negative energy will go. (Merle mentions salt too...it must be very cleansing) Then play loud music for ten minutes, something with a good thumping bass, Led Zeppelin or the Stones, that kind of think. Tinkling bells won't do it :-) If you're sensitive to noise, shut the door and go in another room. The theory is that bass sound shifts the stuck energy and the salt traps it. Leave the salt for a few days then throw it away. You can then put a small bowl somewhere in the house permanently, changing the salt every few weeks.

It works! :) But there is lots more info and practical advice in that book.

Hmmm the Chinese have a remedy for that negative energy called Feng Shui, my
sister use's it a lot, putting mirrors all over her house to get rid of negative energy.
Now where she has this negative energy is the mess she and her boyfriend leave
all over the place, so I can see it really works .

I also heard that bad plumbing may be a cause for some strange noises in haunted houses,
although most houses do on occasion get unpleasant sounds emanating from good plumbing :)

water helps, too.
keep a big bowl of water in the room for a couple of hours, then pour it down the toilet and flush. It draws into it, in the bubbles that form. (Don't let the cat drink out of it, or use it for goldfish.) Do it a couple of times, never using it for anything else, and don't pour it down the drain, flush it down the toilet.

everything on another plane has to have a grounding in the physical. Plumbing certainly can make noise, and so can a settling house. (houses and other dwellings can settle for years!)

Just to clarify, are you saying the noises of bad plumbing and a creaky house are still supernatural and just have a physical "grounding"?
