I was an early catlover from childhood and one of the most startling and intriguing events happened during a visit to the zoo, by myself, I was about 12, and I loved to watch the big cats. That day I was watching the black panthers (I now shudder with horror at the size and barren state of their cage) and they suddenly performed a mating display before my astonished eyes! I knew what they were doing, it was a very brief conjunction of cats, the male surprised the female who seemed as surprised (almost) as I was. I went home on the bus in a very thoughtful mood that day, didn't dare say a word to my ultra prudish foster family. (They never knew about my secret after-school visits to the zoo, financed by some illegal child labour cutting paper to size for a small commercial printer two afternoons a week after school for a pitifully small reward, but enough to see the cats).

Best cat in the world imo

This was Lillith , she was an 18-month-old Eurasian lynx ( twice the size of a domestic cat ) when she escaped from her enclosure at a Welsh Zoo. The bastards at Ceredigion county council ordered her to be killed after declaring it a threat to public safety.

Ironic because Lilith was the name of Adam's first wife before Eve who ran away from the Garden of Eden and became a demon.

Still sad for that poor beautiful lynx.

This is interesting. Which big cats will play with a laser pointer? Can you guess who is the most likely and why?

Just a little note on cats and lasers. They love the chase, but can find it very frustrating and upsetting when they can't catch the dot. So after your laser pointer play, stick a little red sticker dot on the ground and let the laser end there so the cat has something tangible to catch and it helps them to calm down.

My friend has 2 rag doll cats. A kitten and an old man. The kitten loves the laser red dot, but the old boy watches and looks like he's amused that the kitten has fallen for the ploy as he runs here there and everywhere. Then the older one looks at me with a knowing eye as if to say "I see what you're doing. You don't fool me."

I don't know, however I can tell you what cat is the most enthusiastic. Yeah, this one.

There is another interesting video I've seen but it concerns which big cats are affected by cat nip

This is one of my favourite cat stories. It's from How did your cat pick you? on Quora

Quote:
3 years ago, my (USAF) spouse was stationed in Europe and one day, we decided, to adopt a dog. My son and I headed to the nearest shelter the next day. No dog was really clicking with us, but “before we head out how about we get a “cat bath” at the cattery of the shelter?” suggested my son with a mischevious smile. We already had a cat, Sassy, so we were not planning on adopting another cat, it was just for the fun of spending few minutes petting some adorable fluff balls.

The employee opened the door and let us in, in the cats’ area but we had to stay outside the cattery for a few minutes because two families were already in there. We sat on the bench and waited for our turn watching the interaction between cats and humans. The cats were around them purring, meowing, rubbing themselves against their legs. High up in one of the cat trees was a little, yet adult, lilac tortoiseshell furball; rolled in a ball, not interested whatsoever in the commotion below.

And then, it happened. She lifted her head, stretched her white-gloved paws, opened her stunning green eyes and looked at us... I started talking to their caregiver: What happened to this one? She seems so unwilling to engage with people. "She was an abuse case. She is about 2 years old we removed her from a bad situation, she really was on death's door, so totally dehydrated that we had to keep her hooked to a drip for a week. She is nice but very much to herself still. ". I remember mumbling: "Understandably so"

When it was finally our turn, the cats started to surround us but this little frail cat trilled, jumped down her tree and made a bee line to us, tearing her way through the “crowd”. She sat down 2 ft away from us, trilled again, staring at us... After a while petting and playing, the shelter was about to close, so we decided to leave. On our way back to the car, we noticed that the cattery bay window was directly looking onto the parking lot. She had climbed on top of a tree and was looking at us. Once again we locked eyes.

We spoke about her all the way back and that night I could not sleep a blink, her eyes were coming back like flashes...

Next morning, I called the shelter left a million messages telling them to keep her for us and that we were going to pick her up, time for us to drive the 20 miles back to the shelter.

When we pulled into the parking lot, I remember looking up to the window where she was the day before... There she was; staring at us through the window. Suddenly she turned her back and disappeared; when we entered the cats' area, she was sitting in front of the door waiting for us. The employee we talked to the day before was laughing "I knew you were coming the minute I saw her look down the parking lot and rush down her tree! SHE KNEW you were coming for her. Yesterday SHE picked YOU and you just did not know it YET. Today she was waiting at the door with this 'Here is my ride!' expression. At that point, I knew who was in the parking lot ".

Petting a cat is very good for me. It releases a very special feel good endorphin called PURR!

A neighbourhood cat that I know and like came and cuddled up to and slept with me all last night. Beautiful male Abyssinian who often calls in to say hello most days, briefly. He will be wondering where is his friend my four legs. His comforting presence made me happy :)
