Retail is notoriously insensitive to workers’ rights.

Those people who laugh at Sly are idiots.

Once Sly loses this job, it will difficult for him to get another one. His rent is based on his income from this job, plus his disability benefits. They only assess him once a year, and they wouldn’t reduce his rent if he loses this job. This would make it difficult for him to afford the rent. And therefore to buy food and pay for utilities.

Going to work puts him at risk for acquiring the virus. His mother is in a high-risk group should she acquire the virus. He is in contact with his mother frequently.

So far, Oregon, the state he lives in, has had 161 cases of COVID-19 with 4 deaths. It is probable that there are many mild cases around. He’s not in the same situation as in New York City, where there have been 10,000 cases with around 100 deaths. And many mild cases around undiagnosed.

It’s a very hard choice for Sly to make. The potential $600 he would get from the US government would only benefit him briefly.

I can see why Sly is in a real dilemma. I wish I had the answer for him.

Sly, for now: Wear a facemask around your mother. Always consider a possibility that you might be a symptomless carrier. Disinfect doorknobs etc. Don't give a damn about what others think, protect your health at work in any way you can. If you can't afford losing your job, do anything to protect your mother while keeping it!

I am sick and tired of seeing people suggest my parents should be put at risk for the sake of the economy.

I have no idea on Earth why guns are considered an essential service right now.

Your mother matters more. You know that. But being forced to choose, or called a pusssy for wearing gloves, is unacceptable. There must be a way you can lodge an anonymous complaint about that to .... someone in power? Keep records of all the bullying that has happened so far, and if more continues in the future should you go back.

It's hard to believe a new week is finally here. The last one felt like a century. Not that this week will be any better. If anything, it will be even worse.

According to This PDF, the following professions are considered "essential" in California during the CoViD-19 outbreak:

• Workers providing CoViD-19 testing; Workers that perform critical clinical research needed for CoViD-19 response.

• Health care providers and caregivers (e.g., physicians, dentists, psychologists, mid-level practitioners, nurses and assistants, infection control and quality assurance personnel, pharmacists, physical and occupational therapists and assistants, social workers, speech pathologists and diagnostic and therapeutic technicians and technologists).

• Hospital and laboratory personnel (including accounting, administrative, admitting and discharge, engineering, epidemiological, source plasma and blood donation, food service, housekeeping, medical records, information technology and operational technology, nutritionists, sanitarians, respiratory therapists, etc.).

• Workers in other medical facilities (including Ambulatory Health and Surgical, Blood Banks, Clinics, Community Mental Health, Comprehensive Outpatient rehabilitation, End Stage Renal Disease, Health Departments, Home Health care, Hospices, Hospitals, Long Term Care, Organ Pharmacies, Procurement Organizations, Psychiatric, Residential, Rural Health Clinics and Federally Qualified Health Centers, cannabis retailers).

• Manufacturers, technicians, logistics and warehouse operators, and distributors of medical equipment, personal protective equipment (PPE), medical gases, pharmaceuticals, blood and blood products, vaccines, testing materials, laboratory supplies, cleaning, sanitizing, disinfecting or sterilization supplies, personal care/hygiene products, and tissue and paper towel products.

• Public health / community health workers, including those who compile, model, analyze and communicate public health information.

• Behavioral health workers (including mental and substance use disorder) responsible for coordination, outreach, engagement, and treatment to individuals in need of mental health and/or substance use disorder services.

• Blood and plasma donors and the employees of the organizations that operate and manage related activities.

• Workers that manage health plans, billing, and health information, who cannot practically work remotely.

• Workers who conduct community-based public health functions, conducting epidemiologic surveillance, compiling, analyzing and communicating public health information, who cannot practically work remotely.

• Workers who provide support to vulnerable populations to ensure their health and well-being including family care providers • Workers performing cybersecurity functions at healthcare and public health facilities, who cannot practically work remotely.

• Workers conducting research critical to CoViD-19 response.

• Workers performing security, incident management, and emergency operations functions at or on behalf of healthcare entities including healthcare coalitions, who cannot practically work remotely.

• Workers who support food, shelter, and social services, and other necessities of life for economically disadvantaged or otherwise needy individuals, such as those residing in shelters.

• Pharmacy employees necessary for filling prescriptions.

• Workers performing mortuary services, including funeral homes, crematoriums, and cemetery workers.

• Workers who coordinate with other organizations to ensure the proper recovery, handling, identification, transportation, tracking, storage, and disposal of human remains and personal effects; certify cause of death; and facilitate access to behavioral health services to the family members, responders, and survivors of an incident.

• Workers supporting veterinary hospitals and clinics.

Governor either chickened out or is waiting u til night after stores close to make announcement, so I’m on my own

She closed everything but retail stores. f*****g lady doesn’t get it, people mass gather in retail, stores, unless it’s a grocery store it shouldn’t be opened.
