Chronic pain is medically known to lead to depression and other problems which reduce quality of life.

It is a statistical consideration. Not a causal one. I'm talking about getting as much as possible people in the category of people who do not get depressed. And this is not done only by medication. Really the way our brain is wired makes it more vulnerable or more strong.

Quote:
Also, high doses of pain killers can cause you to hallucinate. My grandfather died of cancer (I was a kid then, and I don't remember what kind it was). When he was dying he was stuck between severe pain or being disoriented and hallucinating. So, pain control isn't absolute.

I understand. Well cancer is kind of a medical pain that can really overload the brain.

Quote:
I also recall a story about a guy who had severe neuropathic pain. His doctor was targeted by the DEA because he prescribed more pain killers than any other doctor in the community. (The doctor was the only pain specialist in the area, so of course he did. Duh.) Anyway, the DEA tried to bust him, but couldn't actually find anything that he'd actually done wrong. So, they resorted to harassing him every day for a year until he made a small bureaucratic error, and then they jumped on him. The doctor was so fed up that he dumped all of his pain patients. And since other doctors in the community heard what had happened they refused to take those patients.

There is a problem here with religion because according to christanity for example, we should suffer because of our sins. And that it would be a sin to alleviate the pain. This is absurd.

Quote:
Anyway, the point is that people can't always simply "ignore" pain. Some will choose death over 20-40 more years of life, and I have a hard time judging someone for that.

Of course. Judging is inappropriate because it is basically a personal choice even if it has an effect on people around.

I didn't know them and I don't know if I ever even met them as a young child but my mother's cousin's boyfriend killed himself because of some kind of severe chronic head pain.

I can't really say I'm against suicide because I think it is up to the individual to do what they want with their life including ending it. I personally think it would be unlikely for me to kill myself because I don't want to die and because I don't believe in any kind of afterlife so something is better than nothing. For many suicides the saying that it is "a permanent solution to a temporary problem" does seem to apply.

Beauty pact.
You said the reason for your suicide is because you haven't found your "true love." Finding a another person to make you whole and happy all of the time is impossible, believe me. I once felt that I couldn't live without my boyfriend, then we broke up and I realized "What the hell was I thinking?" Since then I've really relished the freedom of being single.
You probably need more companionship than I do, but there are 7 billion fish in the sea!! (or 3 1/2 billion if you're not bisexual) You will never find "the perfect mate," but I'm sure you can find consumate love, where you and a partner truely care for each other.

Hearing things like that, that you afterwards felt that you just were wrong about the love, just makes me feel like I should kill myself, to get to a better life, on another, non-defective planet. Then again, in a situation like that, in which the relationship had been physical, and not just e-mails and a few phonecalls, I know that I would kill myself. I wouldn't just get over it. It'd haunt me to the point that I'd seek ways to kill myself in every corner. I'd probably end up throwing myself off a high building (after making sure I'd hit no one on the way down). Or maybe drowning, rather.... drowning isn't even supposed to be that bad, when you finally just decide to breathe in.

I do know, though, that even true love cannot keep me happy, all the time. However, it'd make me and her happy enough to enjoy living enough to postpone killing ourselves. Maybe we'd be together five or six years or so, in this life, to then just enter the afterlife, when we'd feel that the excitement we'd get from each other isn't quite the same, anymore. After all, we'd both, unfortunately, have these defective human minds that cause you to get used to things... with time, the love always becomes less interesting, so the remedy to that would have to be to exit this life, to safely continue the love between us, in the afterlife. Not to mention that human bodies age. :/ I can't imagine ever becoming forty. So I have about nine years left, possibly, unless aging maybe can be stopped, soon.

Never mind. There's no point in trying to help anyone around here.

I won't bother going on some self-righteous rant about how unethical it is, just to make myself feel superior, while offering no helpful advice of any kind. Pointless.

But well, from what I gather, an opiate overdose is completely painless and actually quite blissful. You'd just fall asleep and never wake up. Knowing this would certainly make it a lot less frightening. The benzodiazepines would help in reducing fear too, but the way they lower inhibitions when you take too many can have unpredictable mental effects, potentially leading you to mess things up.

As for getting in the mood, I would assume that you already have to be in the mood in order to consider doing it, so I'm not really sure what you're asking for. I assume that you'd just have to concentrate on the futility of your life, and consider it logically. If there is no logical reason to continue, then it makes sense to stop. If there is one, it doesn't. If you're playing a video game and get trapped by some kind of glitch, stuck in a wall or something, it only makes sense to hit the reset button.

There's not much more to it, as far as I can tell.

I can't offer any advice regarding family. It won't really matter what happens after you're dead.

Sorry to make you feel worse, Beauty pact!
What I meant was the love was real enough, at least on my part, and probably on his-the big lug. We broke up mostly because of incompatability. He was a lot more social. We got around that by my staying in the kitchen and being short order cook and bartender for his friends, but he liked to go out and I didn't. There were other things I am a cat person, he was a dog person, I'm a lot more politically liberal, and he was a moderate, he was a bit of jock and I'm a couch potato etc that all added up. We parted friendly and basically painlessly.
The "What was I thinking?" was about me killing myself if he was dead. I could "live" with him breaking up with me even, but not with him off the planet. I eventually realized that life goes on. Sometimes realtionships do run their course.
It worries me that you say that want to commit suicide with a partner. The partner might not agree to that, and I think a true soul mate will love you even if you do age, and vice versa.

It beats the hell out of trying to help and getting roundly abused for it by members and mods alike.

Yes, I'm a perfectionist. :/ But this is separate from the rest of my perfectionism. This is about something that really is necessary, for my happiness.

I didn't mean it made me feel worse, at that very time. I meant that the general knowledge of that people usually just don't care, in the end, that the relationship didn't go well, is very depressing. I don't even know why I try to keep believing in that I will find my true love, in this life, anymore, as I clearly have ended up on the wrong planet. If I'd kill myself, I could just start over, with better circumstances, in a world that is not filled with people who just don't particularly care about the things I care about. It's incredibly depressing to live in this world, when the chances of happiness indeed are as close to zero as almost is possible. It clearly is pointless to do so. I wish someone would e-mail me about the optimal way to pleasantly die through a drug overdose. As I've already stated, I am able to get my hands on benzodiazepines - would that be sure to do it, if I did it right? How much of it, with the body weight counted in? Does it matter what kind of benzo it is?

Well, I'd obviously choose a girlfriend who would agree with me on the suicide pact, and the aging thing. If she'd later change her mind, I suppose that'd mean she wasn't my true love, after all. Unless, of course, my death would make her beyond unhappy, and never would try to find anyone else, or ever even think about it. Then I'd follow her around, as a ghost, waiting for when she'd finally join me in "death"... and then we finally could be ultimately content with our lives, together in the afterlife, anyway... for eternity and beyond. No more anything that you hate. What a blissful thought. :/

Try to at least get through the holiday season. I find it makes a lot of people want to die. You may feel better as time progresses.

Don't worry. I believe that as long as the OP has her anti-GMO campaign, she won't be giving up on life.

Why do ppl think that when they die they go onto something better?

What if this is it? What if ppl are wasting the chance to do amazing things, because they are convinced that if they suffer here they go onto better things? Oh yes - because if you didnt suffer you wouldnt buy as much to make you happy etc etc.

But seriously tho - what if this is all there is? What if there ISNT anything else? And what if you are here for a purpose? Are you going to sit on your hands and do nothing? Perhaps you are meant for something more - perhaps at some point in your life you might meet someone and say something that influences them to do something amazing - and you'll be a part of that. Perhaps YOU are meant to do somethign amazing - who knows!

And if your not, bugger that - go and find something amazing to do - why should everyone else have all the fun? I want some of that too - ill move all over the globe if i have to to find it :D

FÙCK YOU!! People like you are a big reason to why I want to die. People like you, almost exactly. The only positive thing about you must be your support for the right to abortion and your support for sites such as The Pirate Bay. Other than that, you are an absolutely terrible person.

Not that people like you are my only reason. I think I already have covered most of the others, in this thread. And yes, I do think I can add the GMO industry to the list, by the way.

I'm not sure if you're a big fan of punk rock, but I found this to be a pretty inspirational song.
