I’m glad your mother made the call.

Ugh, I have to use it every hour, and the pain comes back before the hour is up, so it feels like pouring lava into my mouth. Cherry-flavored lava (cherry is my least favorite flavor, but I didn’t get a choice). It does help, though, for half an hour or so. This is going to be a fun night

When’s your next chemo session? How long will you have to endure this?

Next chemo is September 3, I think. No clue how long this will last.

I couldn’t stop myself from crying at the thought of having to endure this all night, so my mom called the 24-hour line. I was told that I could take one of my leftover Tylenol Plus pills tonight if I could swallow it (which I did manage to do, though it was very much not fun), and tomorrow I’m getting liquid morphine :drunken:

I would not have guessed that the worst part of chemo could be the mouth pain, but boy, I believe it now.

No morphine after all, just more of the Tylenol Plus, which seems to take the pain down to about a 7 out of 10. Owie :(

No morphine?? I guess they do not want to risk an overdose out of hospital?

7 out of 10 is too high... I hope you can get sleep thru the night.. Maybe liquid melatonin..?

I’m actually supposed to take one or two of the Tylenol Plus now. Two gets it down to about a 4 out of 10, but when I try to eat or drink anything, it shoots back up to a 9. My mom called again and my doctor thinks I might have a fungal infection (probably thrush or something similar), so I’ve got a new mouthwash I’m going to start tonight that should hopefully take care of that. I did manage some sleep last night, though not great, and tonight I even managed some dinner. I’m scheduled to go in to get some fluids tomorrow since I haven’t been able to intake much.

Yep. Could be thrush. Chemo messes with the immune system.

Glad you had some dinner.

My tongue feels so much better now. Apparently my initial suspicion was correct and it just needed a couple days of time. Sure hope that won’t be happening every time I get chemo. When I went in for fluids yesterday, a nurse practitioner took a look and said she didn’t see any thrush, so I stopped using the mouthwash since it had only been prescribed for me the night before, she agreed that I could. Also no more vaguely cherry-flavored lava, that’s only to use as needed and if it does more harm than good, it’s not needed. I feel kind of run down, but that’s to be expected. Also some tingling/numbness in my fingertips, but my mom says that’s also par for the course. I’m not miserable, so I’ll take it.

The tips of all my fingers are numb now, but if that’s the exchange for not having a burning tongue, I’ll happily take it.

Also not sure if it’s because of the chemo or it’s just my body being my body, but I seem to be stuck in PMS without... progressing. My body’s always been weird with hormonal stuff, could just be that plus stress and stuff.

Next chemo is Thursday (a week from yesterday). Yeah, it’s an adventure.

I feel like so far I’ve gotten off pretty easy on the side effects, the only bad one was the sore tongue.

Hey D & D :) ... just checking in on you. Sorry to hear of your tongue pain! Relieved to read you’re getting some relief from it now. Nerve changes such as you’re experiencing with the tips of your fingers is one of the common side effects of chemo drugs. If it continues, it’s worth a mention to your Doc. Sending hugs, and hoping you’re coping alright... xx(https://www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/cancer-in-general/treatment/cancer-drugs/side-effects/nerve-changes
