Thanks for the info, Wolfram! I've seen grey silver foxes before, but didn't know they could be black.

Those cross foxes sure have a beautiful mix of their colors.

The black fox is officially Britain's rarest animal. We have lots of foxes but get very excited when a black one is spotted.

I've seen gray foxes in Georgia. They're pretty.

In Maryland red foxes are getting to be quite common. Saw a dead one hit by car once years ago ( got knocked off the road and into a creek bed, beautiful perfectly preserved specimen suitable for mounting), then when I delivered papers at night for a few months I saw many live ones prowling around the suburbs at night.

Gray foxes are native to the woodlands of eastern north America. The red ones are descended from English red foxes imported from England by rich landowners in the colonial days so that our American gentry could indulge in fox hunting like the aristocrats in Britain do. The red invaders dominate in some parts of the eastern US, and the native gray foxes still dominate in others.

So tiny  I love fennecs. I'd like to have one but they're expensive and my travel life would be over. (The rest of my life too, since I'd have to live somewhere where they're legal and near an exotic vet.)
