lol i feel you man

i've been looking at my hairline and have been wondering if it's receding or just a really bad hairline. It could be either but it's certainly put the fear in me that I'll one day be bald. As a guy who wears his hair relatively long that's a pretty horrifying thought. I just if that day comes when I have to shave it all off and go for the Stone Cold look, I don't have a bumpy head,

I'm not querying the existence of treatments for blindness. I'm just amazed at the fact that you've elevated something as trivial as baldness to the same level.

I say trivial because self esteem issues aside, the main thing hair does is keep your head warm and look pretty. Eyesight is a hell of a lot more important in day to day life.

Would you seriously rather a world where people devoted more time to looking 'good' than to being able to see? I wouldn't

As in my picture, i used to wear my hair relatively long-ish for a guy, i've gotten it cut much shorter in the months since though. & i too also hope that my head isn't oddly shaped or bumpy if worse comes to worse .
I had my head shaved once, but can't for the life of me seem to remember what my head had looked like with so little hair .

Actually i wasn't trying to put blindness on the same level, i just chose it because it was the first fellow non-lethal ailment that came to mind.
& actually you just made a good point. Most of your body heat is lost through your head. If i lose my hair, i'll prolly be considerably colder all the time, & in a manner of speaking, that's not cool .

& just aside from all that, i bet if baldness were as prevalent in women as in men, you'd be singing a different tune . A person can easily say something's not that important if it hasn't happened to them.

We have a wonderful new invention called a 'hat'. It's not licensed for widespread use, but they've commenced phase 3 clinical trials already in the UK....



Actually, a surprising amount of women do start losing their hair when they're older (and not just from chemo). It's not as widespread as guys, but that almost makes it worse as the stigma is greater. Most wear wigs to cover it, or opt for elaborate perms that disguise it.

You're right though, I'm not the one in your situation and I don't know how I'd react if I did start losing mine. I hope I'd be sensible enough to realise it's not the end of the world (if anything, it'd be an excuse to shave it all off- something I've been threatening to do for years ), but it would be upsetting at the start.

I wasn't trying to say you were being superficial, just pointing out that the reason more research goes into blindness and life threatening illnesses is that well, the latter are life threating and the former is severely debillitating.

Though considering how profit driven pharmaceutical companies are and how common hair loss is, it is kind of suprising more haven't tapped into that market.

Ehhh, actually i don't really look that good in most hats
& there are some situations where it can be construed as rude to wear hats.
Like in church, or even just indoors in general.

my complaint is that i'm 19 & it's beginning to happen.
If i were able to put this off at least til i'm reasonably older, then i might have less to complain about.
Men who start losing at relatively young ages have greater stigmas too.

Women are expected to have hair though. Men aren't. I'm pretty sure it will be worse for a woman.

if 'men aren't' then why is this guy so terrified of losing his hair? I mean, obviously there is some expectation that he have hair, too.

You know that blindness is a disabling condition that effects every aspect of your life, whereas hair loss isn't?

And I'm speaking as a woman with female hair loss in her family. If I went bald (as my grandmother did) I'd be upset, sure... but I wouldn't class it along with blindness!

I'm only 18 and you can see my hairline starting to recede if you look closely. Hell, my mother even says so. I guess I'm just more worried about other things right now though than my hair.

He already said he wasn't trying to put them at the same level in a later post....

cue the whining that this is prohibitively expensive and not fair that some people are follically challenged and must be punished financially to look how style and society dictates.
