Lotusblossom, as you may have noticed, whenever a horrendous case of child abuse comes to light in the UK, the news media jumps all over the local social services and screams at them for not preventing the tragedy. I do not believe that you are a bad mother who would ever do anything terrible to her children, but I suspect that most social workers are freaked out that if something happens, the news media will crucify them. So now they grill you about every little thing. 
Anyway, you have my sympathies. They older I get, the less time I spend interacting with other people -- it is just too frustrating and draining. (Thankfully, my job requires very little inter-personal interaction, and I earn just enough money to get by without having to deal with social services.)
