Why is driving so hard?

Driving is never that easy....

I'm from Bangkok and it's hell hard to drive here, and the car I drive, a Toyota Wish(it's Toyota's Mazda 5 MPV), and with a bulgy steering feel, chunky 4-speed auto, and underpowered, it was a pian when it came with me for intersections, where awareness is at key. And I get hesitant a lot, really.....

But I'm still eager to get my licence, and get a more nipple car to drive, definately a Honda Fit or Nissan Micra. But I might buy one of those cheapo Chinese delivery vans since I like sliding doors, I like sliding them, and these things have stick shifts, so that might be a challenge. I also want to fly gliders, and I heard it's actually easier and safer than driving!

I'm ok with driving. I got my license at 17 when I was a junior in high school. I lived on a US Army base at that time and people under 18 couldn't drive off base, but that was ok. I remember the driving school car was a Hyundai Excel. I got confused with the turning signals for a while. I kept on telling myself down means I want to go left and up means going right. I got my VA drivers license at 18 when I was a senior in high school. I had to take written exam and road tests. I had to do these exams because my license was from a foreign country even though it said US Military on it. I failed the written exam. It was on the computer and other people were around me so perhaps I just felt uncomfortable. So then the second written exam I took was on paper in a private room at DMV and I passed. The road test was easy. I had to do parallel parking which I was nervous about but I did it. I rarely do parallel parking and backing into a parking lot. But these days cars have those back up cameras. I drive the interstates now with no problems. I did drive around downtown Baltimore MD, and it was a little tense. I don't like downtown streets because its too much traffic and too confusing. I don't even drive in DC. I take the train into work.

I suck at driving too. I have been learning in my mom's Ford Escape and it's huuuge. I would do better in an smaller car. Her gas pedal is soo sensitive that if I put one toe on it, I'm going 20mph. I wish there was a public transportation system near me so I'd never have to learn or at least put it off until a time where I don't suck. D:
