Yeah, PPR is like opening a can of worms. I didnt have to spend a lot of time in it to see that it would seriously piss me off if I went into it too much...

I am also kind of minority, in a weird sort of way, I am mixed race anyway.. I hate to see people harrassed for their race.

I am like that across-the-board here. I seldom go to any thread anywhere with more than two pages because the initial topic so often seems lost by then. But even if not, I cannot keep up with that much stuff along the way.

I don't know, I'd say "tard" is a pretty light word to use in your average PPR and/or equivalent forum. Especially seeing as you were going at it as much as he was by the sounds of it.

Hell, I legally qualify as a native American but I honestly don't approve of the segregation that the benefits create so have not "signed up" so to speak.. It's not like being a normal citizen of CANADA (of all places) is the worst thing ever. I'd say we have it pretty good.

So yeah, I think you BOTH should have been a lot more mature. Personal attacks don't belong in a forum like that, but NEITHER should anyone take these sorts of things personally,. especially on the internet. You're just feeding trolls and contributing to the problem.

IMO I'm somewhat passionate about my politics, but's a powder keg issue. I try to avoid it.

Same here. No one is forcing anyone to go into the PPR forum and if you know that you tend to get pissed off from stuff like that, then it's probably best you avoid it. Or find someone intelligent and respectful to debate with over instant messenger.

This is why people tell you to never discuss anything covered by the PPR forum. Say one thing and *snaps fingers* just like that it digresses into ad hominem attacks unworthy for postage in a family-friendly forum. And people think I'm the idiot when I petition to end debate forums on other sites.

Honestly PPR dramas are the most boring internet dramas ever so that's why I don't even go to that section.

Friskeygirl seems to be at least the second member to have left in the past month or so due to an issue like this in the PPR forum. She hasn't posted anything since 18 October. I'm all for arguing in a reasonable manner but one has to draw a line at attacking other members or where it crosses over into racist language.

^Agreed. I was saddened to see some of the opinions in PPR I saw yesterday. There are a number of people who are non-white, and even white I think, who would find some of it upsetting. The fact is that people who are racist may be expressing their views, but it becomes quite inhospitable for the recipient who is of that race and reading it.

yes. i believe she has left, at least for the time being. i believe the attacking individual faced repercussions, but to a person on the receiving end it might have felt like too little, too late. i do appreciate that the mods have taken it seriously. they can't really prevent attacks, but they have definitely stepped up a presence.

Well I don't blame her. I use to have sensative issues with it but I see it all the time on forums. I think what makes PPR worse is you're dealing with high falutin jerks who may be book smart but completely dumb when it comes to putting themselves in the other's place. I try to stay away from boards like that. You can try but you can't always ever reason with these types of people. I've been on enough boards to see even the most academically smart act like total idiots.

Unless I got good ammunition, I stay away from the debates all together.

Being able to enjoy PPR really requires the ability to separate a person from their opinions, and the ability to not get emotionally involved in an argument; if you can do those two things reasonably well you'll get along just fine in there. The problems come when people take or make things personal, then it becomes less about discussing an issue more about "winning", and that's when the ugliness tends to ensue. These are universal issues for debate in general and debate forums in particular, but I'm sure the "Aspie factor" doesn't help either.

^ How likely is that to happen though, when political and religious topics are such emotionally charged things? Some people may correctly judge that they wouldnt have a good time in there, but other people go in not realising this and get burnt. There have also been some strangely hateful posts in there of late, and I cant blame the 3 people who I know of who have left the board in the past month, because of PPR posts, one bit.

I don't think anyone should be in the PPR if they don't have a thick skin and can't take different opinions and if they get upset about other peoples opinions.

Religion and politics is one of the strongest topics for anyone. I avoid it like plague. Plus I find those topics boring anyway.

If you find yourself getting heated up because you can't take that people don't agree with you, step out of that thread and never turn back.

Who were the other two members who also left?

One of them was i_wanna_blue.

He had a blog about it but decided to take it off for some reason.

Its unfortunate how ignorant some people are. I see all of these extremeist views in society and honestly, it makes me sick. I think we all need to grow up and stop insulting each other just because of skin colour; we all bleed the same blood. Just because im black doesnt mean im better or worse than a white person, or any other nationality out there. People can't help the way they are, and sadly us people who want to get on in life are dragged down my immature bigoted people who think that they are higher just because they are white. Im very surprised to see this level of bigotry here!

Seriously, people need to grow up, and love each other.

Peace and love
